Matthew 12:40 Even as Jonah was three days and three nights in the belly of the sea monster; so is the Son of humanity three days and three nights in the heart of the earth.
Jesus’ body remained on the cross as the Great Sabbath approached. The Great Sabbath was the first day of Unleavened Bread when no work could be done. Old covenant leaven had to be out of the house before dark. Just before the day ended, Jesus’ dead body was taken off the cross and placed in Joseph’s tomb. His body was placed into a tomb; on the surface of the earth. His soul was in Sheol/Hades.
Acts 2:27
Ephesians 4:9
We know Jesus died in the day time. That confirms the sequential order of the 3 days and 3 nights, keeping a daylight portion first. The word “day” obviously doesn’t refer to a 24-hour day here. It refers to the daylight in contrast to the dark night. When the Bible says, “after two days” or “in the third day”, it is referring to 24-hour days. But, in agreement with Matthew 12:40, choose three white squares and three black squares in the above chart. If you believe the Bible says He was raised on Sunday, then just slide the row of Roman named days to suit your interpretation of scripture. But you surely can’t make the Roman days line up with the Hebrew days. Hebrews started their 24-hour day at sunset. Romans start their new day in the middle of the night while you are asleep. If you want to name which 24-hour day Jesus was resurrected into, you will have to give it a Hebrew name: 1,2,3,4,5,6 or Sabbath.

Hebrews 4
Hebrews was written to the blessed and faithful Hebrews who were in transition from the old marriage to the new. They had already entered the spiritual betrothal part of the new covenant. They had yet to arrive to the promised land of eternal marriage.
The SHABBATH OF ELOHIM
THE SON, OUR MEGA ARCHPRIEST
So seeing that we have a mega archpriest who passed into the heavens – Yah Shua the Son of Elohim, we empower our profession. 15 For we have no archpriest who cannot sympathize with our frailties; but was in all points tested according to our likeness – apart from sin. Hosea 11:8 16So come boldly to the throne of charism, to take mercy and find charism to opportunely help.
Matthew 5:17
YAH SHUA FULFILLS THE TORAH
ECB Presume not that I come to disintegrate the torah or the prophets: I come not to disintegrate; rather to fulfill/shalam.
Colossians 2
All the fulness of deity is in the Christ who sent the Holy Spirit to the Jews, because they could not accomplish fulness of deity bodily. To stand in fulness of deity is to be raised in His image. Receiving the Holy Spirit in a new covenant was the surety from their new husbandman. It represented a Sabbath rest from their continual failure in the old man works mode. They entered the finished humanity of Christ. I could say, “It entered them.” They were betrothed to Him at Pentecost but had yet to walk in the Spirit to the promised land of marriage. It was not the old shadow land the Hebrews were headed for.
MESSIAH, THE FULNESS/SHALOM OF DEITY
For in him dwells all the fulness/shalom of Deity bodily. 10And you are fulfilled/shalamed in him, who is the head of all hierarchy and authority: 11 in whom also you are circumcised with the circumcision – not handmade, in stripping the body of the sins of the flesh in the circumcision of the Messiah; 12 co-buried in baptism, wherein you are also co-raised through the trust of the energizing of Elohim, who raised him from the dead. 13 And you, being dead in your backslidings and the uncircumcision of your flesh he co-enlivened, granting you charism for all your backslidings; 14 wiping the handscribing of dogmas against us – opposed to us and taking it from among us, spiking it to his stake; 15 and having stripped hierarchies and authorities, he exposed them boldly, triumphing over them in it. 16
WARNINGS
So no one is to judge you in food or in drink or in apportioning a celebration or of the new moon or of the shabbaths: 17 which are a shadow of the about to be; and the body is of the Messiah.
Colossians 3:10 (Put off the old covenant humanity; Adamic and Mosaic became Christian)
The new Jerusalem is kept incorruptible in heaven but it extends to the earth. It has no typical old covenant shadows.
Revelation 21:22-24
Romans 3:21-22
ECB But now the justness of Elohim manifests apart from the torah, being witnessed by the torah and the prophets; 22 even the justness of Elohim through trust of Yah Shua Messiah to all and on all who trust – for there is no distinction:
Three days and three nights after the crucifixion, Mary finds an empty tomb. This cannot be the sabbath of the first day of Unleavened Bread or the sabbath of the last day of Unleavened Bread. It must be a weekly sabbath, which was the 3rd day of the 7 Unleavened Bread days that year. It was a 7th day sabbath. Seven represents a completion and eight represents a new creation no longer in the flesh.
Matthew 28:1
CLV Now it is the evening of the sabbaths. At the lighting up into one of the sabbaths came Mary Magdalene and the other Mary to behold the sepulcher.
Mark 16:9 CLV Now, rising in the morning in the first sabbath, He appeared to Mary Magdalene, from whom He had cast out seven demons.”
Luke 6:1 ABP And it came to pass on the sabbath that followed the great one… (Apostolic Bible Polygot)
Luke 6:1 YLT And it came to pass, on the second-first sabbath… (Young’s Literal Translation)
If these translations of Luke 6:1 are accurate, then: the second-first Sabbath is the Sabbath that followed the Great Sabbath. Jesus’ body was placed into the tomb before the dusking into the Great Sabbath. The tomb was found empty at the dawning of the next Sabbath. That Sabbath represents the never-ending day of rest. The Hebrews would be betrothed to the never-ending day of Christ on Pentecost and married to it on the last day of Tabernacles.
Traditionally the Jewish woman helped wash bodies for burial. They went with Joseph to place Jesus in the tomb right before the High Sabbath of Unleavened Bread began. They then returned home to prepare spices. Legally they could have purchased or prepared spices on Nissan 14th and 16th but not Nissan 15th or 17th, because the 15th was the High Sabbath and the 17th was the weekly Sabbath. They washed and placed the body as the 14th ended. They rested on His first day in the tomb (15th) and prepared spices on His second day in the tomb (16th). It is the traditional view that doesn’t have a work day to prepare the spices.
Luke 23:50-56 LITV 50 And, behold, a man named Joseph, being a councillor, a good and righteous man. 51 This one was not assenting to their counsel and deed ( he was from Arimathea, a city of the Jews), and who himself was eagerly expecting the kingdom of God, 52 coming near to Pilate, this one asked for the body of Jesus. 53 And taking it down, he wrapped it in linen, and placed it in a quarried tomb, where no one was ever yet laid. 54 And it was Preparation Day, and a sabbath was coming on. 55 And also women were following, who were accompanying Him out of Galilee, who watched the tomb, and how His body was placed. 56 And returning, they prepared spices and ointment. And indeed they rested on the sabbath, according to the commandment.
Mark 16:1-2 And at the elapsing of the sabbath Mary the Magdalene and Mary the mother of Jacob and Salome buy spices to go annoint Him. Then very early in the morning, on one of the sabbaths, they go to the tomb at the rising of the sun.
Adam was born on a work day. His believing progeny were reborn on a Sabbath. Eschaton Adam re-created His Sabbath rest accomplishment for His people, by becoming the Firstborn in a new creation. Humanity was reborn into the Sabbath day of their messiah. It is the 7th day in the Genesis account of creation when God rests from His very good work. It has no evening and morning (beginning or ending) alluding to the never-ending Sabbath attained for us by the Creator. Adam’s 6th day did have a beginning and an ending. The 6th day of the works of Adam finally ended in AD 70.

Nehemiah 8:18 (Feast of Tabernacles)
Jeremiah 29:10
ECB For thus says Yah Veh: according to my mouth, when seventy years are fulfilled at Babel, I visit you and raise my good word toward you and return you to this place.
Jeremiah spoke of Israels typical remarriage to the land, which was after 70 years of typical Sabbath rest. Israel’s spiritual marriage was accomplished by 70 years of the Lord of the Sabbath. All this to say that the new covenant is the sabbitized old covenant. The new covenant was not created from nothing. The original creation from nothing started on day one. The new creation was created by rescuing humanity from the fallen 6th day of Adam and granting Sabbath rest from Adam’s works mode.
Joshua represented Jesus Christ in the land of types. In Hebrews 4, Jesus is called a better Joshua. Joshua led Israel into the rest of Canaan, but Jesus leads the people of God into “God’s rest”.
Hebrews 4 is addressed to first century Hebrews and is comparing them to the Hebrews who lived over a thousand years earlier; the people of God.
CLV 9 For if Joshua causes them to stop, He would not have spoken concerning another day after these things.” Consequently a sabbatism is left for the people of God. 10 For he who is entering into His stopping, he also stops from his works even as God from His own.”
“We may be being afraid lest a promise being left to us to enter His rest anyone of you may seem to be deficient,” he says in verse 1, “for indeed we have had good news preached to us, just as they also [had good news preached to them]; but the word they heard did not profit them, because it was not united by faith in those who heard.”
Hebrews 4:3
So he continues to compare Israel’s situation in the wilderness to the situation of the Hebrews in his day. They both had good news preached to them. The good news preached to them was God’s promise to Israel from Mount Sinai. He said He would create out of them a great nation in His name and take them into the promised land.
Not coincidentally, Joshua took the people across the Jordan the same day Jesus entered Jerusalem. There was still work to be done after crossing the Jordon. Joshua’s promised land mission was to conquer the enemy and obtain rest from war. Joshua’s mission was spiritually fulfilled by Jesus’ last old covenant work week. (And His thousand year sabbatical fulfillment of Adam’s 70 years.) Their names are the same; both are called Yeshua in Hebrew.
Jonah 3:3-6
The Sign of Jonah was given to “this generation”
Matthew 12:38 YLT38 Then answered certain of the scribes and Pharisees, saying, `Teacher, we will to see a sign from thee.’ 39 And he answering said to them, `A generation, evil and adulterous, doth seek a sign, and a sign shall not be given to it, except the sign of Jonah the prophet; 40 for, as Jonah was in the belly of the fish three days and three nights, so shall the Son of Man be in the heart of the earth three days and three nights. 41 `Men of Nineveh shall stand up in the judgment with this generation, and shall condemn it, for they reformed at the proclamation of Jonah, and lo, a greater than Jonah here! 42 `A queen of the south shall rise up in the judgment with this generation, and shall condemn it, for she came from the ends of the earth to hear the wisdom of Solomon, and lo, a greater than Solomon here!
Matthew 24:34
Revelation 17:2-9
YLT 1 And there came one of the seven messengers, who were having the seven vials, and he spake with me, saying to me, `Come, I will shew to thee the judgment of the great whore, who is sitting upon the many waters, 2 with whom the kings of the earth did commit whoredom; and made drunk from the wine of her whoredom were those inhabiting the earth;’ 3 and he carried me away to a wilderness in the Spirit, and I saw a woman sitting upon a scarlet-coloured beast, full of names of evil-speaking, having seven heads and ten horns, 4 and the woman was arrayed with purple and scarlet-colour, and gilded with gold, and precious stone, and pearls, having a golden cup in her hand full of abominations and uncleanness of her whoredom, 5 and upon her forehead was a name written: `Secret, Babylon the Great, the Mother of the Whores, and the Abominations of the earth.’ 6 And I saw the woman drunken from the blood of the saints, and from the blood of the witnesses of Jesus, and I did wonder—having seen her—with great wonder;
7 and the messenger said to me, `Wherefore didst thou wonder? I—I will tell thee the secret of the woman and of the beast that is carrying her, which hath the seven heads and the ten horns. 8 `The beast that thou didst see: it was, and it is not; and it is about to come up out of the abyss, and to go away to destruction, and wonder shall those dwelling upon the earth, whose names have not been written upon the scroll of the life from the foundation of the world, beholding the beast that was, and is not, although it is. 9 `Here is the mind that is having wisdom; the seven heads are seven mountains, upon which the woman doth sit,
Revelation 11:8 – (These two ‘dead bodies’ represented the new covenant martyrs from both in-land Judah and diaspora Israel. They were both about to be resurrected, but the destruction of harlot Jerusalem was not yet. Broad is the road to destruction.)

In Iconium the same thing occured. The laggers did not bless the Jews who entered the synagogue and spoke in the name of the Lord.
Acts 14:2 CLV 1 Now in Iconium the same thing occurred at their entering into the synagogue of the Jews and speaking, so that a vast multitude of both Jews and Greeks believe.” 2 Yet the stubborn Jews rouse up and provoke the souls of the nations against the brethren.
No rest for the “Stubborn” ones.

Paul symbolizes flesh and Spirit in Galatians citing Ishmael as the son of the slave woman who is born according to the flesh. Isaac is then the son of the free woman born fulfilling the promise.
Paul says that these two mothers and their sons symbolize the two covenants. There are two bodies and one is persecuting the other. Ishmael corresponding to Sinai, the law, and slavery; Isaac corresponding to the heavenly Jerusalem, the promise, and freedom. Before the promised son, barren Sarah is barren Jerusalem in exile. Then she has a son and the fruitful Jerusalem of promise becomes the mother of all who are the children of the promise.
As Isaac was persecuted by Ishmael, so it is now. Now being the first century. The children of promise were being persecuted by the children of slavery under law. Abraham was to cast out this slave woman with her son. So Paul tells the Galatians to remove from their midst those who seek to return to live under the law; represented by outward circumcision in the flesh, which actually pictured a removal of the flesh. These two bodies (in flesh and not in flesh) existed on Earth till AD 70. Even with Paul in Romans, we can’t say for sure if he was struggling with his individual flesh body or the old covenant body of the death that was stubbornly stuck on flesh mode. Probably both. Only Jesus completely ruled His flesh body.
