Human is defined characteristically or corporately as the human nature or the human race. The human race is defined as everyone and the human nature is defined as kindness. It seems like there is something missing in these pop culture definitions. The word human has been usurped by science and by the population at large in defense of themselves. Maybe rightly so, since the pre-evangelistic Hebrew diaspora has been permanently assimilated into the world population. The Hebrews came from the nation specifically created in God’s image. At one time, the body of Moses represented old creation humanity to the world. But new creation humanity has since been unshackled and made even more effective for articulating the image of God to the world. We have transitioned into a decentralized humanity. The Holy Spirit today unites us into one mobilized body of Christ.
1 Corinthians 12:13, 22, 24-27 (Some parts of the newborn spiritual body were still self-obsessed, even with their spiritual gifts)
The character of people is not innately human. Humanity has to be instilled in them after they are born, into the ‘human race’. The age that steals from each other and kicks, hits and bites the most is of course 2-3 year olds, because they have just recently received a functional body. They are just learning how to coordinate their own articulated body parts. Interacting properly with members of the body at large is much more advanced. 2 year old people don’t know how to duly interact yet. In fact, it is the character of God that defines true humanity, not taxonomic hierarchy, unless that whole species has adopted His character as their code of conduct.
The only species of animal that can agree to a code of conduct is people, and that only as grown-ups. Humanity was offered to an adult body of people at Sinai. They accepted God’s proposal to make them greater than all other people groups. He would make them greater by making them into a nation in His image. But first that adult body was held accountable for not believing the Word of Yahweh they had said they agreed with.
We do claim to be human. The 1993 drama In The Name Of The Father is a biographical film about the conflicts and injustices between adults claiming to be the defenders of humanity. They were just more sophisticated at fighting than 2-year olds. In this true story, humanity does finally win it’s case with grown-ups in court, but not without some sacrifice and suffering.
Conversely, “I’m just human” today means I am weak and fault ridden like all people and should not be blamed for my bad behavior. Originally, to be made human was to become godly or angelic; “Let us make humanity in our image.” “I am just human” was not a pre-fall expression. Adam didn’t even use that one post-fall. To be “in the flesh” is biblically the weakness of humanity, not humanity itself. To save his own flesh, immature and still unclothed Adam did try to blame his wife that God gave him.
“The works of the flesh” are not godlike or angelic. “The fruit of the Spirit” represents the character of the True Human, because the Spirit is one with God and His Son. Adam, as a son of God, was assigned to walk in the garden with the Holy Spirit and be fruitful. As the True Human Son, Yeshua walked in the Name of the Father and reclaimed what Adam lost. He did not fall for Satan or the world system.
He grew up in a family under law to become fully human in a flesh body and that did not imply weak and prone to mistakes. Full humanity rules. Yeshua was unclothed before being unlawfully hung on the tree by old covenant humanity to symbolize original Adam’s immature humanity. He too would finally win out in God’s court because He acted only in the Name of the Father. As a fully mature adult, He agreed to enter into a new human covenant by willingly taking fallen Adam’s place as thee eschaton Adam of the old covenant.
Matthew 28:18-20
LITV 18 And coming up Jesus talked with them, saying, All authority in Heaven and on earth was given to Me. 19 Going, then, disciple all nations, baptizing them into the name (character) of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, 20 teaching them to observe all things, whatever I commanded you. And, behold, I am with you all the days until the completion of the age. Amen. (Variously translated: the end of time, the end of the world, the completion/shalom of the eon, the end of the age, the full end of the age, the conclusion of the eon, the end of the earth, the close of the age, the termination of the age, the very end of the age)
After the resurrection of Yeshua all authority was given to Him as the new head human. It had been relinquished to the devil by the old covenant humans who were supposed to be the light of the world. Yeshua came to get it back. Humanity is the kingdom of heaven extending to Earth. God originally gave the authority of that great commission to Adam, who was to hold his human sway over all. But it was a co-mission that Adam surrendered to the devil. Yeshua took that authority back as the incorruptible human and gave it back to the new creation body of humans; post resurrection, in a new and more fruitful covenant. Although Yeshua was not to be seen again in His flesh and blood body after 40 days, He promised to be always with them, as the new head of humanity. He was with them in empathy, in authority and by sending them the helper: the indwelling presence and image of God – the Holy Spirit. The kingdom was spiritually taken back from Satan by Yeshua and co-missioned to His Jewish disciples.
The devil offered the kingdom to Yeshua in the fallen adamic way. Why didn’t the devil just see that Yeshua was hungry and offer Him food to eat? Because the devil didn’t like true humanity. He wanted it to fall to him; animal style. The human kingdom rightly rules the animal kingdoms with the Spirit of Yahweh.
Luke 4:6-7 BSB 6 “I will give You authority over all these kingdoms and all their glory,” he said. “For it has been relinquished to me, and I can give it to anyone I wish. 7 So if You worship me, it will all be Yours.”
Luke 4:14-32 (Yeshua ruled the fallen humans and the demons, in the Spirit, after He didn’t fall for Satan)
Yeshua offers the kingdom humanely; in the Father’s name.
John 14:13-14
Whatever you ask in My name, that will I do, so that the Father may be glorified in the Son. If you ask Me anything in My name, I will do it.
Philippians 2:9-10
For this reason also, God highly exalted Him, and bestowed on Him the name which is above every name, so that at the name of Jesus every knee will bow, of those who are in heaven and on earth and under the earth,
John 1:12
But as many as received Him, to them He gave the right to become children of God, even to those who believe in His name,
Daniel 7:17-18 (Four animal kingdoms ruled over the human nation in diaspora before their messiah appeared. The kings’ images are represented by a lion, a leopard, a bear and a wild beast.)
LITV 17 These great beasts are four, four kings; they shall rise up out of the earth. 18 But the saints of the Most High shall receive the kingdom and possess the kingdom forever, even forever and ever.
Daniel 7:27
Matthew 3 (John the baptizer rejects the dehumanizing status-quo Jews but baptizes both the genuine Jews and the true Jewish imager of Yahweh, in the Jordan)
Matthew 23:15 (There is a generational diminishing of humanity by the very proactive false image makers.)
Philippians 2
BSB 1 Therefore if you have any encouragement in Christ, if any comfort from His love, if any fellowship with the Spirit, if any affection and compassion, 2 then make my joy complete by being of one mind, having the same love, being united in spirit and purpose. 3 Do nothing out of selfish ambition or empty pride, but in humility consider others more important than yourselves. 4 Each of you should look not only to your own interests, but also to the interests of others. 5 Let this mind be in you which was also in Christ Jesus: 6 Who, existing in the form of God, did not consider equality with God something to cling to, 7 but emptied Himself, taking the form of a servant, being made in human likeness. 8 And being found in appearance as a man, He humbled Himself and became obedient to death—even death on a cross. 9Therefore God exalted Him to the highest place, and gave Him the name above all names, 10 that at the name of Jesus every knee should bow, in heaven and on earth and under the earth, (Jesus even ruled in Hades. The gates of Hades did not hold His people; the church.) 11 and every tongue confess that Jesus Christ is Lord, to the glory of God the Father. 12Therefore, my beloved, just as you have always obeyed, not only in my presence, but now even more in my absence, continue to work out your salvation with fear and trembling. 13 For it is God who works in you to will and to act on behalf of His good pleasure. 14 Do everything without complaining or arguing, 15 so that you may be blameless and pure, children of God without fault in a crooked and perverse generation, in which you shine as lights in the world 16 as you hold forth the word of life, in order that I may boast on the day of Christ that I did not run or labor in vain. 17 But even if I am being poured out like a drink offering on the sacrifice and service of your faith, I am glad and rejoice with all of you. 18 So you too should be glad and rejoice with me. 19 Now I hope in the Lord Jesus to send Timothy to you soon, that I also may be cheered when I learn how you are doing. 20 I have nobody else like him who will genuinely care for your needs. 21 For all the others look after their own interests, not those of Jesus Christ. 22 But you know Timothy’s proven worth, that as a child with his father he has served with me to advance the gospel. 23 So I hope to send him as soon as I see what happens with me. 24 And I trust in the Lord that I myself will come soon. 25 But I thought it necessary to send back to you Epaphroditus, my brother, fellow worker, and fellow soldier, who is also your messenger and minister to my needs. 26 For he has been longing for all of you and is distressed because you heard he was ill. 27He was sick indeed, nearly unto death. But God had mercy on him, and not only on him but also on me, to spare me sorrow upon sorrow. 28Therefore I am all the more eager to send him, so that when you see him again you may rejoice, and I may be less anxious. 29 Welcome him in the Lord with great joy, and honor men like him, 30 because he nearly died for the work of Christ, risking his life to make up for your deficit of service to me.
