Q: How can the morning of the seventh day also be the morning of the first day?
August 12, 2021 John RosenbergerA: The seventh day sabbath was the first day in the count to Pentecost, i.e., First Fruit.
Leviticus 23:11 (says morrow of the sabbath in Hebrew)
Young’s Literal Translation 11 then he hath waved the sheaf before Jehovah for your acceptance; on the morrow of the sabbath doth the priest wave it.
A: The morning of the seventh day sabbath was the first day in the count to Pentecost. Evidently whoever translated the Hebrew into the Greek Septuagint knew this. Neither the Hebrew nor the Greek version of Leviticus contains the word “after”. When that word is added to the English translation it is due to bias. Therefore the morning of the sabbath is the day of First Fruit not the day after, which is also the morning of the first day in the count to 50 days. It is not confusing if you just remove the word “after” from the following versions that insert it. “After” is not in the Hebrew or Greek text, so why add it to the English text?
Leviticus 23:11 (says morrow of the first day in Greek)
Brenton Septuagint 11 and he shall lift up the sheaf before the Lord, to be accepted for you. On the morrow of the first day the priest shall lift it up.
Leviticus 23:15 (morning of the sabbath)
Young’s Literal Translation 15 `And ye have numbered to you from the morrow of the sabbath, from the day of your bringing in the sheaf of the wave-offering: they are seven perfect sabbaths;
Count from the first morning of these 8 sabbaths. 8 sabbaths = 50 days. 1+(7 x 7)
Leviticus 23:15
Thomson Septuagint 15 That from the morrow of these sabbaths; from the day on which you offer up the dedicated sheaf, you shall reckon for yourselves seven whole weeks,
Leviticus 23:15 (day “after” the sabbath)
Brenton Septuagint 15 And ye shall number to yourselves from the day after the sabbath, from the day on which ye shall offer the sheaf of the heave-offering, seven full weeks:
A: All that needs to be done to make perfect sense of all this confusion is remove the word “after” and realize that the first day in the count toward Pentecost was a seventh day sabbath. Seven more sabbaths adds 49 days to the originating sabbath.
Leviticus 23:11 (The morning “after” the first day would be the second day. When “after” is added to this text it makes total confusion.)
Thomson Septuagint 11 and he shall offer up the sheaf before the Lord, to be accepted for you; On the morrow after the first day, the priest shall offer this up.
Leviticus 23:11 (Morning “after” the sabbath )
ECB11 and he waves the omer at the face of Yah Veh at your pleasure: the priest waves it on the morrow after the shabbath:
Leviticus 23:11 (First day of what?)
Brenton Septuagint 11 and he shall lift up the sheaf before the Lord, to be accepted for you. On the morrow of the first day the priest shall lift it up.
A: The first day in the count to Pentecost, i.e., First-fruit, was on a weekly sabbath. The first day of Unleavened Bread count was called a Great Sabbath. It could be on any day of the week, in that count to seven. Unleavened bread always starts on the 15th of the month though. First-fruit is always on the seventh day of the week, but on different days of the month. It is the first weekly sabbath after the Great Sabbath of Nisan 15th.
According to the Apostolic Bible (APB), the very first sabbath of this festival season was called the ‘great one’. The sabbath called the ‘great one’ is the first day of Unleavened Bread. Yeshua was placed in the tomb near twilight, right before this great day began. The first day of Unleavened Bread is called a special sabbath no matter what day of the week it falls on. The second-first sabbath is therefore the First Weekly Sabbath, when Yeshua was resurrected. It is the first of the eight sabbaths in the count to Pentecost.
Yeshua is the never-ending sabbath rest. His original resurrection day is entered into by Jews on Pentecost. The never-ending sabbath is not Sunday. Yeshua came to rescue those in Adam from the 6th day of eschatological creation. The sixth day is in works mode until the seventh day arrives. The Great Sabbath of passover was the first day in the tomb. The never-ending Sabbath of Yeshua was His resurrection day. The Jews were engaged to this day on Pentecost.
Luke 6:1 ABP And it came to pass on the sabbath that followed the great one… (Apostolic Bible Polygot)
Luke 6:1 YLT And it came to pass, on the second-first sabbath… (Young’s Literal Translation)
A. Therefore: the second-first sabbath is the sabbath that followed the great one. This is so obviously not a reference to the first day of the week.
The Greek version of Leviticus 23:6-11 uses the word ‘first’ for the two different first sabbaths. The two uses of the word ‘first’ are for the first day of the Unleavened bread count and for the first day in the count to Pentecost. It was either last year’s wheat grain or this year’s barley grain they were eating without leaven. The barley harvest begins during the seven days of unleavened bread. Counting to seven insures that First-fruit of Barley arrives into a clean land.
The day of First-fruit could fall anywhere from 1-7 days after Unleavened Bread begins. They were preparing for the new wheat harvest that begins at Pentecost. By removing all leaven from their houses they were symbolically cleansing the land. The new leaven for the new wheat was arriving on the first-fruit barley grain. By the time the wheat harvest arrives, they will have new uncontaminated barley malt to get new yeast from. Today the ostensible Jews sell all their leaven to someone they know so they can buy it back when the holiday is over. This kinda subverts the whole point when they keep their old leaven.
Matthew 16:11-12 ALT 11 “How do you(p) not understand that [it was] not concerning bread I said to you(p) to be guarding against the leaven [or, yeast] of the Pharisees and Sadducees?” 12 Then they understood that He did not say to be guarding against the leaven [or, yeast] of the bread, but against the teaching of the Pharisees and Sadducees.
A. The Great sabbath is the first day in another count to seven.
Leviticus 23:6-8
Leviticus 23:9-11
Brenton 9 And the Lord spoke to Moses, saying, 10 Speak to the children of Israel, and thou shalt say to them, When ye shall enter into the land which I give you, and reap the harvest of it, then shall ye bring a sheaf, the first-fruits of your harvest, to the priest; 11 and he shall lift up the sheaf before the Lord, to be accepted for you. On the morrow of the first day the priest shall lift it up.
Leviticus 23:3-11 (The basic weekly sabbath is after 6 days of work. The first and last day of unleavened bread were annually appointed sabbaths)
There is no evening and morning for day seven. God completed His work on the cross and then conquered death. He was resurrected to never die again, so He entered an eternal sabbath on the day He was raised from the dead. The wedding of the church to Him would represent the super sabbath year of Jubilee, which is another seventh seven that recounts the first sabbatical to become a fifty year anniversary. How could the first year of marriage to the typical land be a sabbatical if the new creation started back on creation day one? All weddings are new creations also called new covenants.
Genesis 1:5
LITV(i) 5 And God called the light, Day. And He called the darkness, Night. And there was evening, and there was morning the first day.
Genesis 2:1-3
LITV(i) 1 And the heavens and the earth were finished, and all their host. 2 And on the seventh day God completed His work which He had made And He rested on the seventh day from all His work which He had made. 3 And God blessed the seventh day and sanctified it, because He rested from all His work on it, which God had created to make.
