Early Rain and Latter Rain
Deuteronomy 11:14
LITV 14 that I will give the rain of your land in its season, the former rain and the latter rain, that you may gather in your grain, and your wine, and your oil.
Many commentators today say the early rain is in the fall, since many today celebrate the month of Tishri as the beginning of the creation of souls rather than the month of Nissan as the birth and rebirth of the nation; also called the new creation. All of creation received the Holy Spirit rebirth after the Jewish creation received it. That is the inverted order of the original creation. On the typical sixth day the animals were made before the humans. In the rebirth, the humans became spiritual first, then the rest of creation joined them in their new covenant, before the sixth day was fulfilled.
Exodus 12:1-2 – The Month of Nissan
CLV 1 Yahweh spoke to Moses and to Aaron in the land of Egypt, saying. 2 This month shall be for you the beginning of months. It shall be the first for you of the months of the year.
The Exodus is when Yahweh told Israel to start their year, not Trumpets. Nissan is the month when they were called out of Egypt to become a nation, not the first day of Tishri. The so called ‘Jews’ today emphasize the original creation and the birth of Adam in the month of Tishri. Rosh Hashanah is the first day of the month. It is the Jewish New Year and one of their holiest days. They celebrate the old creation and the old man. They deny the new covenant man who put the old man to death. He was born the first time in the month of Tishri as the eschaton Adam, but He put Adam to death and was born again in the month of Nissan. He also called His people out of Egypt again in fulfillment of the typical exodus; sometimes called the second exodus.
The early spring rain seems obvious enough. “April showers bring May flowers”. Latter rains would sustain the spring awakening. Let’s look at some Bible verses. Jeremiah 5:24 refers to the rain God gives so His people can keep their appointed weeks of harvest. So when are these appointments?
Jeremiah 5:24
YLT 24 And they have not said in their heart, `Let us fear, we pray you, Jehovah our God, who is giving rain, The sprinkling and the gathered, in its season, The appointed weeks of harvest He keepeth for us.’
Jeremiah 5:24
Brenton 24 and they have not said in their heart, Let us fear now the Lord our God, who gives us the early and latter rain, according to the season of the fulfillment of the ordinance of harvest, and has preserved it for us.
Exodus 34:22 addresses the beginning of the wheat harvest, which was 50 days after the barley harvest began. They observed the Feast of Weeks by counting 50 days from First Fruit Barley Harvest.
Barley harvest = spring.
Wheat harvest = summer.
Ingathering at the “revolution” of the year = fall.
Fall is turning into the agricultural rest of the winter months. Tabernacles concluded the fruit harvest in the fall. There are no winter harvests. Sabbatical years commenced at this fulfillment time of the year. We often display a cornucopia in the fall as a symbol of plenty for the year. A cornucopia is a goat horn full of flowers and fruit. No flowers = no fruit.
Exodus 34:22
YLT 22 `And a feast of weeks thou dost observe for thyself; first-fruits of wheat-harvest; and the feast of in-gathering, at the revolution of the year.
Hosea 6:11
CLV 11 Moreover, Judah, a harvest is set for you. In My reversal of the captivity of My people,
Hosea 6:11
Thomson 11 Now Judah begin an ingathering for thyself. When I bring back the captivity of my people.
Jeremiah 8:20
CLV 20 Harvest has passed, summer has ended, And we–we have not been saved.”
John 4:21-26
CLV 21 Jesus is saying to her, “Believe Me, woman, that, coming is an hour when neither in this mountain nor in Jerusalem shall you be worshiping the Father.” 22 You are worshiping that of which you are not aware; we are worshiping that of which we are aware, for salvation is of the Jews.” 23 But coming is the hour, and now is, when the true worshipers will be worshiping the Father in spirit and truth, for the Father also is seeking such to be worshiping Him.” 24 God is spirit, and those who are worshiping Him must be worshiping in spirit and truth.”25 The woman is saying to Him, “We are aware that Messiah is coming, Who is termed ‘Christ,’ Whenever He should be coming, He will be informing us of all things.” 26 Jesus is saying to her, “I am He, Who am speaking to you.”
Jacob 1:1-4 – to the Jews with faith
1 Jacob, a slave of God and of the Lord Jesus Christ, to the twelve tribes in the Dispersion, greeting: 2 My brothers count it all joy when you fall into various trials, 3 knowing that the proving of your faith works patience. 4 But let patience have its perfective work, that you may be perfect and complete, lacking nothing.
Jacob 5:7-9 – salvation was near
CLV 7 Be patient, then, brethren, till the presence of the Lord. Lo! the farmer is waiting for the precious fruit of the land, being patient about it, till it should be getting the early and late showers.” 8 You also, then, be patient; establish your hearts, for the presence of the Lord is near.” 9 Be not groaning, brethren, against one another, lest you may be judged. Lo! the Judge stands before the doors.”
The Jewish salvation in the one body of Christ was drawing nearer for Gentiles too.
Romans 13:11
LITV 11 Also this, knowing the time, that it is now the hour for you to be aroused from sleep, for now our salvation is nearer than when we believed.
Revelation 14:15
15 And another angel came out from the temple, crying with a great voice to him that sat on the cloud, Send forth thy sickle, and reap: for the hour to reap is come; for the harvest of the land is dried.
Revelation 14:18
LITV 18 And another angel went forth out of the altar having authority over the fire. And he spoke with a great cry to the one having the sharp sickle, saying, Send your sharp sickle and gather the clusters of the vine of the earth, because its grapes are ripened.
Grapes start growing in the spring but are harvested in the fall, usually before Tabernacles.
