Matthew 12:40 Even as Jonah was three days and three nights in the belly of the sea monster; so is the Son of humanity three days and three nights in the heart of the earth.

Jesus’ body remained on the cross as the Great Sabbath approached. The Great Sabbath was the first day of Unleavened Bread when no work could be done. Old covenant leaven had to be out of the house before dark. Just before the day ended, Jesus’ dead body was taken off the cross and placed in Joseph’s tomb. His body was placed into a tomb; on the surface of the earth. His soul was in Sheol/Hades.

Acts 2:27

for you neither leave my soul in Sheol/Hades nor give your Merciful to see decay.

Ephesians 4:9

YLT and that, he went up, what is it except that he also went down first to the lower parts of the earth?
 
Hades was not the same place as Tartarus. Hades was an old covenant holding place for God’s dead people. It was a 6th day delay place. Hades avoided destruction for those Jesus would rescue from spiritual death. Everyone spiritually died in works mode, like Adam. Only Jesus could complete Adam’s 1000-year-day of creation alive. He became the full image of His Father in the flesh. That is why Hades could not hold him. In the Father’s judgement He is a true Son. But, Jesus did not take His flesh body to Hades to rescue His people in the flesh. He sacrificed His old covenant life in order to redeem His people from Hades. He rescued them from their spiritual death. Jesus was still in the old covenant until His soul went through the gates of Hades. Hades was an old covenant delay for the people who kept typically counting to seven but never really arrived. Hades was a delay in judgement for God’s fallen people. Tartarus was a delay in judgement for God’s fallen angels. Jesus didn’t go to Tartarus to rescue fallen angels. 
 
For if God didn’t spare the angels who sinned but threw them down into Tartarus and delivered them to be kept in chains of darkness until judgment (2 Pet 2:4 HCSB).
 
And angels who did not keep their own domain, but abandoned their proper abode, He has kept in everlasting bonds under darkness for the judgment of the great day (Jude 1:6).
 
“I shall take and hurl him into murky Tartarus, far, far away, where is the deepest gulf beneath the earth, the gates whereof are of iron and the threshold of bronze, as far beneath Hades as heaven is above earth: then shall ye know how far the mightiest am I of all gods” (Illiad 8.17).
 

We know Jesus died in the day time. That confirms the sequential order of the 3 days and 3 nights, keeping a daylight portion first. The word “day” obviously doesn’t refer to a 24-hour day here. It refers to the daylight in contrast to the dark night. When the Bible says, “after two days” or “in the third day”, it is referring to 24-hour days. But, in agreement with Matthew 12:40, choose three white squares and three black squares in the above chart. If you believe the Bible says He was raised on Sunday, then just slide the row of Roman named days to suit your interpretation of scripture. But you surely can’t make the Roman days line up with the Hebrew days. Hebrews started their 24-hour day at sunset. Romans start their new day in the middle of the night while you are asleep. If you want to name which 24-hour day Jesus was resurrected into, you will have to give it a Hebrew name: 1,2,3,4,5,6 or Sabbath.

 
Jesus was resurrected into one of the days of the Hebrew week, because the old covenant still existed then and He was a Jew living in the land. But, today we wake up on the first day of the Roman week and call it our day of rest. We rest on Roman Sunday looking back at the completed 6-day work week on day one of the next week.  Then we work Monday through Saturday again, looking forward to getting back to day 1, so we can rest again, even though the Hebrews counted on getting to day 7. It is now a new creation. Anything can happen. Right? But is day 1 really the new covenant resurrection day or is that a Roman ‘creation’ ? The new covenant is supposed to be the completion of the Hebrew old covenant. Was the new covenant created from nothing or is the new creation made from the fulfillment of the old creation? 

Acts 3:23-27

Peter addresses Israelites (the people of God) at the Temple

YLT and it shall be, every soul that may not hear that prophet shall be utterly destroyed out of the people [almost always “the people” in LXX refers to Israel]; and also all the prophets from Samuel and those following in order, as many as spake, did also foretell of these days. `Ye are sons of the prophets, and of the covenant that God made unto our fathers, saying unto Abraham: And in thy seed shall be blessed all the families of the earth; to you first, God, having raised up His child Jesus, did send him, blessing you, in the turning away of each one from your evil ways.’ 
 

Hebrews 4

Hebrews was written to the blessed and faithful Hebrews who were in transition from the old marriage to the new. They had already entered the spiritual betrothal part of the new covenant. They had yet to arrive to the promised land of eternal marriage.

The SHABBATH OF ELOHIM

ECB So awe, lest ever a pre-evangelism of entering his shabbath remains, any of you think you fell behind. 2 For we were evangelized exactly as they: but the word they heard benefited them not, not being co-mingled with the trust by them who heard it. 3 For we who trust, enter shabbath; exactly as he said, As I oathed in my wrath, if they enter my shabbath – : although the works became from the foundation of the cosmos. Psalm 95:1 4 For somewhere, about the seventh, he said thus: And the seventh day Elohim shabbathized from all his works. 5 And again in this, If they enter my shabbath – . 6 So since it remains that some must enter therein – and they to whom it was previously evangelized entered not in because of trustlessness – 7 again, he decrees a day, wording in David, Today, after so long a time – exactly as it is said, Today whenever you hear his voice, harden not your hearts.  Colossians 2

All the fulness of deity is in the Christ who sent the Holy Spirit to the Jews, because they could not accomplish fulness of deity bodily. To stand in fulness of deity is to be raised in His image. Receiving the Holy Spirit in a new covenant was the surety from their new husbandman. It represented a Sabbath rest from their continual failure in the old man works mode. They entered the finished humanity of Christ. I could say, “It entered them.” They were betrothed to Him at Pentecost but had yet to walk in the Spirit to the promised land of marriage. It was not the old shadow land the Hebrews were headed for. 

MESSIAH, THE FULNESS/SHALOM OF DEITY
For in him dwells all the fulness/shalom of Deity bodily.  10And you are fulfilled/shalamed in him, who is the head of all hierarchy and authority: 11 in whom also you are circumcised with the circumcision – not handmade, in stripping the body of the sins of the flesh in the circumcision of the Messiah; 12 co-buried in baptism, wherein you are also co-raised through the trust of the energizing of Elohim, who raised him from the dead. 13 And you, being dead in your backslidings and the uncircumcision of your flesh he co-enlivened, granting you charism for all your backslidings; 14 wiping the handscribing of dogmas against us – opposed to us and taking it from among us, spiking it to his stake; 15 and having stripped hierarchies and authorities, he exposed them boldly, triumphing over them in it. 16
WARNINGS
So no one is to judge you in food or in drink or in apportioning a celebration or of the new moon or of the shabbaths: 17 which are a shadow of the about to be; and the body is of the Messiah.

Colossians 3:10 (Put off the old covenant humanity; Adamic and Mosaic became Christian)

CLV 9 Do no lie to one another, stripping off the old humanity together with its practices, 10 and putting on the young, which is being renewed into recognition, to accord with the Image of the One Who creates it,

The new Jerusalem is kept incorruptible in heaven but it extends to the earth. It has no typical old covenant shadows.

Revelation 21:22-24

YLT 22 And a sanctuary I did not see in it, for the Lord God, the Almighty, is its sanctuary, and the Lamb, 23 and the city hath no need of the sun, nor of the moon, that they may shine in it; for the glory of God did lighten it, and the lamp of it is the Lamb; 24 and the nations of the saved in its light shall walk, and the kings of the earth do bring their glory and honour into it,

JUSTNESS THROUGH TRUST

Three days and three nights after the crucifixion, Mary finds an empty tomb. This cannot be the sabbath of the first day of Unleavened Bread or the sabbath of the last day of Unleavened Bread. It must be a weekly sabbath, which was the 3rd day of the 7 Unleavened Bread days that year. It was a 7th day sabbath. Seven represents a completion and eight represents a new creation no longer in the flesh. 

Matthew 28:1

CLV Now it is the evening of the sabbaths. At the lighting up into one of the sabbaths came Mary Magdalene and the other Mary to behold the sepulcher.

 
There were 8 weekly Sabbaths in the Feast of Weeks.  There were 2 any-day Sabbaths during the time of Unleavened Bread. Matthew 28 is referring to one of these 10 Sabbaths. Mark calls it the 1st. Since it cant be the 1st of the 2 Unleavened Bread Sabbaths, it must be the 1st of the 8 Sabbaths in the count to Pentecost. That would be the 2nd-1st Sabbath.
 

Mark 16:9 CLV Now, rising in the morning in the first sabbath, He appeared to Mary Magdalene, from whom He had cast out seven demons.”

Luke 6:1  ABP And it came to pass on the sabbath that followed the great one… (Apostolic Bible Polygot)

If these translations of Luke 6:1 are accurate, then: the second-first Sabbath is the Sabbath that followed the Great Sabbath. Jesus’ body was placed into the tomb before the dusking into the Great Sabbath. The tomb was found empty at the dawning of the next Sabbath. That Sabbath represents the never-ending day of rest. The Hebrews would be betrothed to the never-ending day of Christ on Pentecost and married to it on the last day of Tabernacles.

Preparing The Spices

Traditionally the Jewish woman helped wash bodies for burial. They went with Joseph to place Jesus in the tomb right before the High Sabbath of Unleavened Bread began. They then returned home to prepare spices. Legally they could have purchased or prepared spices on Nissan 14th and 16th but not Nissan 15th or 17th, because the 15th was the High Sabbath and the 17th was the weekly Sabbath. They washed and placed the body as the 14th ended. They rested on His first day in the tomb (15th) and prepared spices on His second day in the tomb (16th). It is the traditional view that doesn’t have a work day to prepare the spices.

Luke 23:50-56  LITV 50 And, behold, a man named Joseph, being a councillor, a good and righteous man. 51 This one was not assenting to their counsel and deed ( he was from Arimathea, a city of the Jews), and who himself was eagerly expecting the kingdom of God, 52 coming near to Pilate, this one asked for the body of Jesus. 53 And taking it down, he wrapped it in linen, and placed it in a quarried tomb, where no one was ever yet laid. 54 And it was Preparation Day, and a sabbath was coming on55 And also women were following, who were accompanying Him out of Galilee, who watched the tomb, and how His body was placed. 56 And returning, they prepared spices and ointment. And indeed they rested on the sabbath, according to the commandment.

Mark 16:1-2 And at the elapsing of the sabbath Mary the Magdalene and Mary the mother of Jacob and Salome buy spices to go annoint Him. Then very early in the morning, on one of the sabbaths, they go to the tomb at the rising of the sun.

Like the Great Sabbath Eve, Sabbaths Eve also began at dusk, like our Christmas Eve. But Sabbaths Eve was when Jesus’ rebirth day began. Christmas Eve is when we begin to celebrate His birth. Santa travels all night going down chimneys to leave gifts under the tree, so we can see them in the morning light. Mary traveled through the night to the tomb and arrived at dawn to find it empty. The empty tomb initiated the greatest gift to humanity. Sabbaths Eve commenced the seven week count to Pentecost, when Jews would join Jesus’ complete humanity in their new covenant.
 
That is why Sabbaths is plural. It was the eve of the first Sabbath of the renewed creation. But the made new creation was still being made out of the old covenant fulfillment, so they were still fulfilling the feast days by continuing to count to Pentecost. Pentecost reversed the curse of Babel. At Babel the people were intent on making a centralized name for themselves. After uniting to celebrate Pentecost, the Jews willingly scattered with their diaspora languages and took the gospel to all the nations in Jesus’ name. The whole world is to be filled with humanity. Humanity is not united by a local structure.
 
The day after Jesus’ resurrection, the seven weeks count to their spiritual marriage covenant began. Jesus’ resurrection day is added into the 49 day count. It became 50 days when they entered Jesus’ resurrection day. First fruit of barley harvest to first fruit of wheat harvest is 50 days. The day after the preliminary Sabbath, inaugurated the count to 7 full weeks. They counted to 7, seven times, before they entered His never-ending Sabbath rest, via the Holy Spirit He sent to them, on their not so typical celebration of becoming a nation.
 
Sabbath + 1,2,3,4,5,6,7 + 1,2,3,4,5,6,7 + 1,2,3,4,5,6,7 + 1,2,3,4,5,6,7 + 1,2,3,4,5,6,7 + 1,2,3,4,5,6,7 + 1,2,3,4,5,6,7 = 50 days. Jesus resurrection day initiated the never-ending new creation. Their Spiritual birth was day 5o of the Feast of Weeks. The first day of the new creation came after His final old covenant work-week was complete. Jesus started the new creation with His First Fruit offering; on the 8th day of passion week; from old covenant Sabbath to new creation Sabbath; no longer in the flesh mode, even though He was in His flesh body. He had already sacrificed His old covenant accomplishment in the flesh mode, under law, so He could bless His people in route to the spiritual promised land. Jesus was the only spiritual harvest to offer on that First-Fruit Sabbath day. In the new covenant we become living sacrifices who are spiritually enabled to serve. 

Adam was born on a work day. His believing progeny were reborn on a Sabbath. Eschaton Adam re-created His Sabbath rest accomplishment for His people, by becoming the Firstborn in a new creation. Humanity was reborn into the Sabbath day of their messiah. It is the 7th day in the Genesis account of creation when God rests from His very good work. It has no evening and morning (beginning or ending) alluding to the never-ending Sabbath attained for us by the Creator. Adam’s 6th day did have a beginning and an ending. The 6th day of the works of Adam finally ended in AD 70.

1 Corinthians 15:22

ABP for as in Adam all die, so also in the Christ all shall be restored to life,

Adam lived to be 930 years old. Our average lifespan is 70 years. We are born to complete Adam’s day of death. We are all born the first time as in Adam’s unfinished sixth day? And we all die in the interim fulfilling it. Evidently his work day was supposed to be a thousand years, not 930. The Hebrews had a concept of a thousand year ‘day’ as well as a 24-hour day. First Adam was suppose to continue to walk with the Spirit in the garden. First Adam didn’t reach his never-ending day spiritually alive. So eschaton Adam took 70 years from the time of His birth to complete Adam’s day spiritually alive. He sweat drops of blood in the garden to submit to His mission. And only He would have arrived alive, if not for His death, burial and resurrection, for us who are spiritually reborn into His forever family of humanity. In the old covenant, 8th day circumcision was the typical rebirth day. It pointed to the 8th Sabbath in the Feast of Weeks and the 8th day Sabbath of the Feast of Tabernacles. Both betrothal and marriage signified a new creation no longer in the flesh.

And he is reading in the scroll of the law of God day by day, from the first day till the last day, and they do celebrate seven days, and on the eighth day a holiday recess, according to the custom.
 

Jeremiah 29:10

ECB  For thus says Yah Veh: according to my mouth, when seventy years are fulfilled at Babel, I visit you and raise my good word toward you and return you to this place.

Jeremiah spoke of Israels typical remarriage to the land, which was after 70 years of typical Sabbath rest. Israel’s spiritual marriage was accomplished by 70 years of the Lord of the Sabbath. All this to say that the new covenant is the sabbitized old covenant. The new covenant was not created from nothing. The original creation from nothing started on day one. The new creation was created by rescuing humanity from the fallen 6th day of Adam and granting Sabbath rest from Adam’s works mode.

Joshua represented Jesus Christ in the land of types. In Hebrews 4, Jesus is called a better Joshua. Joshua led Israel into the rest of Canaan, but Jesus leads the people of God into “God’s rest”.

Hebrews 4 is addressed to first century Hebrews and is comparing them to the Hebrews who lived over a thousand years earlier; the people of God.

CLV 9 For if Joshua causes them to stop, He would not have spoken concerning another day after these things.” Consequently a sabbatism is left for the people of God. 10 For he who is entering into His stopping, he also stops from his works even as God from His own.”

 “We may be being afraid lest a promise being left to us to enter His rest anyone of you may seem to be deficient,” he says in verse 1, “for indeed we have had good news preached to us, just as they also [had good news preached to them]; but the word they heard did not profit them, because it was not united by faith in those who heard.”

Hebrews 4:3

YLT for we do enter into the rest—we who did believe, as He said, `So I sware in My anger, If they shall enter into My rest—;’ and yet the works were done from the foundation of the world,
 

So he continues to compare Israel’s situation in the wilderness to the situation of the Hebrews in his day. They both had good news preached to them. The good news preached to them was God’s promise to Israel from Mount Sinai. He said He would create out of them a great nation in His name and take them into the promised land.

Not coincidentally, Joshua took the people across the Jordan the same day Jesus entered Jerusalem. There was still work to be done after crossing the Jordon. Joshua’s promised land mission was to conquer the enemy and obtain rest from war. Joshua’s mission was spiritually fulfilled by Jesus’ last old covenant work week. (And His thousand year sabbatical fulfillment of Adam’s 70 years.) Their names are the same; both are called Yeshua in Hebrew.

Jonah 3:3-6

KJV 3 So Jonah arose, and went unto Nineveh, according to the word of the LORD. Now Nineveh was an exceeding great city of three days’ journey. 4 And Jonah began to enter into the city a day’s journey, and he cried, and said, Yet forty days, and Nineveh shall be overthrown. 5So the people of Nineveh believed God, and proclaimed a fast, and put on sackcloth, from the greatest of them even to the least of them. 6 For word came unto the king of Nineveh, and he arose from his throne, and he laid his robe from him, and covered him with sackcloth, and sat in ashes.

The Sign of Jonah was given to “this generation”

Matthew 12:38 YLT38 Then answered certain of the scribes and Pharisees, saying, `Teacher, we will to see a sign from thee.’ 39 And he answering said to them, `A generation, evil and adulterous, doth seek a sign, and a sign shall not be given to it, except the sign of Jonah the prophet; 40 for, as Jonah was in the belly of the fish three days and three nights, so shall the Son of Man be in the heart of the earth three days and three nights. 41 `Men of Nineveh shall stand up in the judgment with this generation, and shall condemn it, for they reformed at the proclamation of Jonah, and lo, a greater than Jonah here! 42 `A queen of the south shall rise up in the judgment with this generation, and shall condemn it, for she came from the ends of the earth to hear the wisdom of Solomon, and lo, a greater than Solomon here!

Matthew 24:34

KJV 34 Verily I say unto you, This generation shall not pass, till all these things be fulfilled.
 
Jesus addressed the first century Pharisees as adulterous. That meant the men were committing  adultery with the woman or the city of Jerusalem as the typical bride of Yahweh was committing adultery with the kings of the earth, rather than being loyal to their creator King; or both.

Revelation 17:2-9

YLT 1 And there came one of the seven messengers, who were having the seven vials, and he spake with me, saying to me, `Come, I will shew to thee the judgment of the great whore, who is sitting upon the many waters, 2 with whom the kings of the earth did commit whoredom; and made drunk from the wine of her whoredom were those inhabiting the earth;’ 3 and he carried me away to a wilderness in the Spirit, and I saw a woman sitting upon a scarlet-coloured beast, full of names of evil-speaking, having seven heads and ten horns, 4 and the woman was arrayed with purple and scarlet-colour, and gilded with gold, and precious stone, and pearls, having a golden cup in her hand full of abominations and uncleanness of her whoredom, 5 and upon her forehead was a name written: `Secret, Babylon the Great, the Mother of the Whores, and the Abominations of the earth.’ 6 And I saw the woman drunken from the blood of the saints, and from the blood of the witnesses of Jesus, and I did wonder—having seen her—with great wonder;
7 and the messenger said to me, `Wherefore didst thou wonder? I—I will tell thee the secret of the woman and of the beast that is carrying her, which hath the seven heads and the ten horns. 8 `The beast that thou didst see: it was, and it is not; and it is about to come up out of the abyss, and to go away to destruction, and wonder shall those dwelling upon the earth, whose names have not been written upon the scroll of the life from the foundation of the world, beholding the beast that was, and is not, although it is. 9 `Here is the mind that is having wisdom; the seven heads are seven mountains, upon which the woman doth sit,

Revelation 11:8 – (These two ‘dead bodies’ represented the new covenant martyrs from both in-land Judah and diaspora Israel. They were both about to be resurrected, but the destruction of harlot Jerusalem was not yet. Broad is the road to destruction.)

Matthew 23:34-39  (All the martyrs were on Jerusalem)

CLV 34 Therefore, lo! I am dispatching to you prophets and wise men and scribes. Of them, some you will be killing and crucifying, and of them, some you will be scourging in your synagogues and persecuting from city to city, 35 so that on you should be coming all the just blood shed on the earth, from the blood of just Abel until the blood of Zechariah, son of Berechiah, whom you murder between the temple and the altar.” 36 Verily, I am saying to you: All these things will be arriving on this generation.37 Jerusalem! Jerusalem! who art killing the prophets and pelting with stones those who have been dispatched to her! How many times do I want to assemble your children in the manner a hen is assembling her brood under her wings-and you will not!” 38 Lo! left is your house to you desolate. 39 For I am saying to you: You may by no means be perceiving Me henceforth, till you should be saying, ‘Blessed is He Who is coming in the name of the Lord!'”
 
Blessed are the people of Yahweh because they carry His good name. They are often seen as a threat to the earthly establishment, because they find their fulfillment in a higher government. They see a spiritual Jerusalem extending down from the wiser government Head in heaven. Those first century Jews who perceived the Lord, blessed those who carried His name. That is why ‘Jewish’ Paul took up an offering for the believing Jews in Jerusalem. Those who clung to the old establishment Jerusalem were cursing the new establishment. The cursers stayed and faced her destruction. Shadowland is no more. God’s people live in His never-ending Sabbath day. The one He was resurrected into as first fruit of the new covenant.

 In Iconium the same thing occured. The laggers did not bless the Jews who entered the synagogue and spoke in the name of the Lord. 

Acts 14:2 CLV 1 Now in Iconium the same thing occurred at their entering into the synagogue of the Jews and speaking, so that a vast multitude of both Jews and Greeks believe.” 2 Yet the stubborn Jews rouse up and provoke the souls of the nations against the brethren.

No rest for the “Stubborn” ones.

Paul symbolizes flesh and Spirit in Galatians citing Ishmael as the son of the slave woman who is born according to the flesh. Isaac is then the son of the free woman born fulfilling the promise.

Paul says that these two mothers and their sons symbolize the two covenants. There are two bodies and one is persecuting the other.  Ishmael corresponding to Sinai, the law, and slavery; Isaac corresponding to the heavenly Jerusalem, the promise, and freedom. Before the promised son, barren Sarah is barren Jerusalem in exile. Then she has a son and the fruitful Jerusalem of promise becomes the mother of all who are the children of the promise.

As Isaac was persecuted by Ishmael, so it is now. Now being the first century. The children of promise were being persecuted by the children of slavery under law. Abraham was to cast out this slave woman with her son. So Paul tells the Galatians to remove from their midst those who seek to return to live under the law; represented by outward circumcision in the flesh, which actually pictured a removal of the flesh. These two bodies (in flesh and not in flesh) existed on Earth till AD 70. Even with Paul in Romans, we can’t say for sure if he was struggling with his individual flesh body or the old covenant body of the death that was stubbornly stuck on flesh mode. Probably both. Only Jesus completely ruled His flesh body.

Romans 7:24-25

ECB 24 Miserable human – I! Who rescues me from the body of this death? 25 I eucharistize Elohim through Yah Shua Messiah our Adonay. So indeed with the mind I serve the torah of Elohim; and with the flesh, the torah of sin.
 

2 Chronicles 7:8-11 The final rest day after the typical dedication of the House of Yahweh was the 8th day of The Feast of Tabernacles. All seven festivals were finished.

 8 And Solomon celebrates the feast at that time seven days, and all Israel with him; a very great assembly, from the entering in of Hamath unto the brook of Egypt. 9 And they make on the eighth day a holiday recess, because the dedication of the altar they have made seven days, and the feast seven days. 10 And on the twenty and third day of the seventh month he has sent the people to their tents, rejoicing, and glad in heart, for the goodness that Yahweh has done to David, and to Solomon, and to Israel His people. 11 And Solomon finishes the house of Yahweh, and the house of the king; and all that has come on the heart of Solomon to do in the house of Yahweh, and in his own house, he has caused to prosper.
