Q: How can the morning of the seventh day also be the morning of the first day?

A: The seventh day sabbath was the first day in the count to Pentecost, i.e., First Fruit.

Leviticus 23:11 (says morrow of the sabbath in Hebrew)

Young’s Literal Translation 11 then he hath waved the sheaf before Jehovah for your acceptance; on the morrow of the sabbath doth the priest wave it.

A: The morning of the seventh day sabbath was the first day in the count to Pentecost. Evidently whoever translated the Hebrew into the Greek Septuagint knew this. Neither the Hebrew nor the Greek version of Leviticus contains the word “after”. When that word is added to the English translation it is due to bias. Therefore the morning of the sabbath is the day of First Fruit not the day after, which is also the morning of the first day in the count to 50 days. It is not confusing if you just remove the word “after” from the following versions that insert it. “After” is not in the Hebrew or Greek text, so why add it to the English text?

Leviticus 23:11 (says morrow of the first day in Greek)

Brenton Septuagint 11 and he shall lift up the sheaf before the Lord, to be accepted for you. On the morrow of the first day the priest shall lift it up.

Leviticus 23:15 (morning of the sabbath)

Young’s Literal Translation 15 `And ye have numbered to you from the morrow of the sabbath, from the day of your bringing in the sheaf of the wave-offering: they are seven perfect sabbaths;

Count from the first morning of these 8 sabbaths. 8 sabbaths = 50 days. 1+(7 x 7)

Leviticus 23:15

Thomson Septuagint 15 That from the morrow of these sabbaths; from the day on which you offer up the dedicated sheaf, you shall reckon for yourselves seven whole weeks,

Leviticus 23:15 (day “after” the sabbath)

Brenton Septuagint 15 And ye shall number to yourselves from the day after the sabbath, from the day on which ye shall offer the sheaf of the heave-offering, seven full weeks:

A: All that needs to be done to make perfect sense of all this confusion is remove the word “after” and realize that the first day in the count toward Pentecost was a seventh day sabbath. Seven more sabbaths adds 49 days to the originating sabbath.

Leviticus 23:11 (The morning “after” the first day would be the second day. When “after” is added to this text it makes total confusion.)

Thomson Septuagint 11 and he shall offer up the sheaf before the Lord, to be accepted for you; On the morrow after the first day, the priest shall offer this up.

Leviticus 23:11 (Morning “after” the sabbath )

ECB11 and he waves the omer at the face of Yah Veh at your pleasure: the priest waves it on the morrow after the shabbath:

Leviticus 23:11 (First day of what?)

Brenton Septuagint 11 and he shall lift up the sheaf before the Lord, to be accepted for you. On the morrow of the first day the priest shall lift it up.

A: The first day in the count to Pentecost, i.e., First-fruit, was on a weekly sabbath. The first day of Unleavened Bread count was called a Great Sabbath. It could be on any day of the week, in that count to seven.  Unleavened bread always starts on the 15th of the month though. First-fruit is always on the seventh day of the week, but on different days of the month. It is the first weekly sabbath after the Great Sabbath of Nisan 15th.

According to the Apostolic Bible (APB), the very first sabbath of this festival season was called the ‘great one’. The sabbath called the ‘great one’ is the first day of Unleavened Bread. Yeshua was placed in the tomb near twilight, right before this great day began. The first day of Unleavened Bread is called a special sabbath no matter what day of the week it falls on. The second-first sabbath is therefore the First Weekly Sabbath, when Yeshua was resurrected. It is the first of the eight sabbaths in the count to Pentecost.

Yeshua is the never-ending sabbath rest. His original resurrection day is entered into by Jews on Pentecost. The never-ending sabbath is not Sunday. Yeshua came to rescue those in Adam from the 6th day of eschatological creation. The sixth day is in works mode until the seventh day arrives. The Great Sabbath of passover was the first day in the tomb. The never-ending Sabbath of Yeshua was His resurrection day. The Jews were engaged to this day on Pentecost.

Luke 6:1  ABP And it came to pass on the sabbath that followed the great one… (Apostolic Bible Polygot)

Luke 6:1  YLT And it came to pass, on the second-first sabbath… (Young’s Literal Translation)

A. Therefore: the second-first sabbath is the sabbath that followed the great one. This is so obviously not a reference to the first day of the week.

The Greek version of Leviticus 23:6-11 uses the word ‘first’ for the two different first sabbaths. The two uses of the word ‘first’ are for the first day of the Unleavened bread count and for the first day in the count to Pentecost. It was either last year’s wheat grain or this year’s barley grain they were eating without leaven. The barley harvest begins during the seven days of unleavened bread. Counting to seven insures that First-fruit of Barley arrives into a clean land.

The day of First-fruit could fall anywhere from 1-7 days after Unleavened Bread begins.  They were preparing for the new wheat harvest that begins at Pentecost. By removing all leaven from their houses they were symbolically cleansing the land. The new leaven for the new wheat was arriving on the first-fruit barley grain. By the time the wheat harvest arrives, they will have new uncontaminated barley malt to get new yeast from. Today the ostensible Jews sell all their leaven to someone they know so they can buy it back when the holiday is over. This kinda subverts the whole point when they keep their old leaven.

Matthew 16:11-12  ALT 11 “How do you(p) not understand that [it was] not concerning bread I said to you(p) to be guarding against the leaven [or, yeast] of the Pharisees and Sadducees?” 12 Then they understood that He did not say to be guarding against the leaven [or, yeast] of the bread, but against the teaching of the Pharisees and Sadducees.

A. The Great sabbath is the first day in another count to seven.

Leviticus 23:6-8

Brenton 6 And on the fifteenth day of this month is the feast of unleavened bread to the Lord; seven days shall ye eat unleavened bread. 7 And the first day shall be a holy convocation to you: ye shall do no servile work. 8 And ye shall offer whole-burnt-offerings to the Lord seven days; and the seventh day shall be a holy convocation to you: ye shall do no servile work.

A. The weekly sabbath is the first day in the count to seven sevens.

Leviticus 23:9-11

Brenton 9 And the Lord spoke to Moses, saying, 10 Speak to the children of Israel, and thou shalt say to them, When ye shall enter into the land which I give you, and reap the harvest of it, then shall ye bring a sheaf, the first-fruits of your harvest, to the priest; 11 and he shall lift up the sheaf before the Lord, to be accepted for you. On the morrow of the first day the priest shall lift it up.

Leviticus 23:3-11 (The basic weekly sabbath is after 6 days of work. The first and last day of unleavened bread were annually appointed sabbaths)

LITV 3 Work is to be done six days, and in the seventh day shall be a sabbath of rest, a holy gathering; you shall do no work; it is a sabbath to Jehovah in all your dwellings. 4 These are appointed seasons of Jehovah, holy gatherings which you shall proclaim in their appointed seasons: 5 In the first month, on the fourteenth of the month, between the evenings is the Passover to Jehovah. 6 And on the fifteenth of this month is the Feast of Unleavened Bread to Jehovah; you shall eat unleavened things seven days. 7 On the first day you shall have a holy gathering; you shall do no work of service; 8 and you shall bring near a fire offering to Jehovah seven days; and the seventh day shall be a holy gathering; you shall do no work of service. (The reference to passover here is to the passover sacrifice on the 14th. The actual passing over is in the middle of the night of the 15th).

Reap the land on the six work days then offer the First-fruits on the seventh day which is the first weekly Sabbath in the count to Pentecost. The Feast of Weeks, like Unleavened Bread, begins and ends on a sabbath.

9 And Jehovah spoke to Moses, saying, 10 Speak to the sons of Israel, and you shall say to them, When you come in to the land which I am giving to you, and have reaped its harvest, and have brought in the sheaf, or the beginning of your harvest, to the priest, 11 then he shall wave the sheaf before Jehovah for your acceptance; on the morrow of the sabbath the priest shall wave it.

Only one person was in the new creation for those 49 days. But since day one of the new creation was also day seven, the church never ends. The bride entered His day of sabbath rest by betrothal on the 50th anniversary day of the new creation.

There is no evening and morning for day seven. God completed His work on the cross and then conquered death. He was resurrected to never die again, so He entered an eternal sabbath on the day He was raised from the dead. The wedding of the church to Him would represent the super sabbath year of Jubilee, which is another seventh seven that recounts the first sabbatical to become a fifty year anniversary. How could the first year of marriage to the typical land be a sabbatical if the new creation started back on creation day one? All weddings are new creations also called new covenants.

Genesis 1:5

LITV(i) 5 And God called the light, Day. And He called the darkness, Night. And there was evening, and there was morning the first day.

  Genesis 2:1-3

LITV(i) 1 And the heavens and the earth were finished, and all their host. 2 And on the seventh day God completed His work which He had made And He rested on the seventh day from all His work which He had made. 3 And God blessed the seventh day and sanctified it, because He rested from all His work on it, which God had created to make.

Hebrews 4:1-11 (Hebrews was written to the betrothed Hebrews who were preparing to marry the spiritual promised land, the groom went to prepare it in heaven. The new creation heaven wasn’t finished. The Holy Spirit betrothed them on the 50th day of Pentecost. Of course some did not enter their new covenant promise and so would lose their salvation. Pentecost was their spiritual Mt Sinai. Their final Jubilee sabbatical put the land of types to rest by completing Adam’s sixth day into Christ’s seventh day; on earth and in heaven.

Adam did not consummate his marriage before breaking covenant. He was expelled from the land before procreating. He procreated the fallen imagers of God. He got stuck in eschatological day 6 of works mode. He needed new covenant faith in the Lord of the sabbath. Adam fell short of the never ending  day of the Lord. Adam did not bring in 1000 years and become immortal.

LITV(i) 1 Then let us fear lest in any way a promise having been left to enter into His rest, that any of you may seem to come short. 2 For, indeed, we have had the gospel preached to us, even as they also; but the word did not profit those hearing it, not having been mixed with faith in the ones who heard. 3 For we, the ones believing, enter into the rest, even as He said, “As I swore in My wrath, they shall not enter into My rest,” though the works had come into being from the foundation of the world. LXX-Psa. 94:11, MT-Psa. 95:11 4 For He has spoken somewhere about the seventh day this way, “And God rested from all His works in the seventh day.” Gen. 2:2 5 And in this place again, “They shall not enter into My rest.” LXX-Psa. 94:11; MT-Psa. 95:11 6Therefore, since it remains for some to enter into it, and those who formerly had the gospel preached did not enter in on account of disobedience, 7 He again marks out a certain day, saying in David, Today (after so long a time, according as He has said), “Today, if you hear His voice, do not harden your hearts.” LXX-Psa. 94:7, 8; MT-Psa. 95:7, 8 8 For if Joshua gave them rest, then He would not have afterwards spoken about another day. 9 So, then, there remains a sabbath rest to the people of God. 10 For he entering into His rest, he himself also rested from His works, as God had rested from His own. LXX-Psa. 95:11, Gen. 2:2 11 Therefore, let us exert ourselves to enter into that rest, that not anyone fall in the same example of disobedience.

Nobody entered into Adam’s day of rest. Yeshua (Jesus) is the Joshua who came and gave them rest. He put the eschaton Adam to death for them. The first day of His new creation was the never-ending sabbath day of the resurrection. Fifty days later the Jews entered that covenant, on the seventh seven. The first seven was day one of the new covenant. Yeshua completed the 6th day in the old covenant land. The Holy Spirit resurrected Christ’s completed work and that made Him the new and better husbandman. It is the completion of the old covenant foundation work that brought us to the never ending betrothal day. It was entered into on the fiftieth day by the newly covenanted Jews.  Yeshua then went to prepare a place in heaven prior to the eternal promised land sabbatical.

Heaven and earth were renewed by Yeshua. The first year of new covenant marriage was a sabbatical. Leaving six for seven was their new creation salvation. Don’t get stuck on 6. Don’t go back to old creation day one either.  In the new creation, the first day of betrothal was a never-ending sabbath and the first year of marriage was a never-ending sabbatical.

In the inverted chiastic order, the new creation begins with the unending sabbath of the immortal human. It does not begin on day one. The human enters first then the previously unclean animals are brought into the body of Christ by humanity. to the Jew first then the Gentile. The Christ was the full embodiment of the image of God.

Animals enter the new and immortal human creation.

Acts 10:11-12 11 And he saw the heaven being opened and a certain vessel like a great sheet coming down on him, being bound by four originals, and let down onto the land; 12 in which were all the four-footed animals of the land, and the wild beasts, and the creeping things, and the birds of the heaven.

The new covenant incorporated the Jew first then it included the previously unclean animals. This is the chiastic fulfillment of the Genesis chapter one creation account. It is eternal life for all who are brought into it.

Jeremiah 31:27 ECB 27 Behold, days come, – an oracle of Yah Veh that I seed the house of Yisra El and the house of Yah Hudah with the seed of humanity and with the seed of animal.
