Didn’t Jesus say, “After three days,” in English?

Mark 8:31

CLV 31 And He begins to teach them that the Son of Mankind must be suffering much and be rejected by the elders and the chief priests and the scribes, and be killed and after three days rise.”

Didn’t Jesus Himself say, “After three days,” in Mark 8:31? The Greek word meta can be translated “after” or “in the midst of”. The Hosea 6:2 Septuagint version uses the same Greek word as used in Mark 8:31. Thompson LXX chooses the English word “in” to represent meta yet Brenton LXX chooses the English word “after” to represent meta. Therefore Mark 8:31 could mean within 3 days rather than after 3 days. Especially since most of the other verses about the resurrection say “to” the 3rd day not “after” 3 days. “After” is the anomaly interpretation. Hosea 6:2 is clearly a third day resurrection either way: whether the healing is taking place during the 2 days or is all on the 3rd day, the result is a 3rd day resurrection.

Hosea 6:2

Thomson LXX 2 in (meta) two days he can restore us to health; on the third day we shall be raised up and live before him.

Hosea 6:2

Brenton LXX 2 After (meta) two days he will heal us: in the third day we shall arise, and live before him, and shall know him:

“THE THIRD DAY” VERSES:

Concordant Literal Version

Exodus 19:10-11

CLV 10 Then Yahweh said to Moses: Go to the people, and you will hallow them today and tomorrow; let them rinse their garment. 11 and come to be prepared for the third day; for on the third day Yahweh shall descend on Mount Sinai before the eyes of all the people. (The third day here means in the third day, not after 72 hours. That would be in the fourth day.)

Hosea 6:2

CLV 2 He will make us alive after two days: In the third day He will raise us up, and we shall live before Him.”

Matthew 16:21

CLV 21 Thenceforth begins Jesus to show His disciples that He must be coming away into Jerusalem and to be suffering much from the elders and chief priests and scribes, and to be killed, and the third day to be roused.”

Luke 24:7

CLV 7 saying that ‘The Son of Mankind must be given up into the hands of men, sinners, and be crucified, and the third day rise.'”

Luke 24:46

CLV 46 and said to them that “Thus it is written, and thus must the Christ be suffering and rise from among the dead the third day,

John 20:1

CLV 1 Now, on one of the sabbaths, Miriam Magdalene is coming to the tomb in the morning, there being still darkness, and is observing the stone taken away from the door of the tomb.”

Acts 10:40

CLV 40 This One God rouses the third day, and gives Him to become disclosed,

1 Corinthians 15:4

CLV 4 and that He was entombed, and that He has been roused the third day according to the scriptures,

In the verses above that say, “the third day” my interlinear actually reads, “to the third day“. “After to the third day,” would not make much sense. Mark 8:31 is the anomaly interpretation, by rendering the Greek word “meta” as “after” rather than “within“. The same translator has Jesus say the English word “during” to describe His timing of the resurrection of the temple, which is His body. Both “after three days” and “during three days” are found in the book of Mark.

Mark 8:31 – the anomaly

CLV 31 And He begins to teach them that the Son of Mankind must be suffering much and be rejected by the elders and the chief priests and the scribes, and be killed and after three days rise.”

Mark 14:58 – the norm

CLV 58 We hear Him saying that ‘I shall be demolishing this temple made by hands, and during three days I shall be building another not made by hands.'”

To the third day is during three days. After three days is after three days.
