Hebrews 5:12

YLT 12 for even owing to be teachers, because of the time, again ye have need that one teach you what are the elements of the beginning of the oracles of God, and ye have become having need of milk, and not of strong food,

Oracles are spoken words from God. Moses received words from God on Sinai. Moses received the oracles of Yahweh.

Acts 7:38

YLT 38 `This is he who was in the assembly in the wilderness, with the messenger who is speaking to him in the mount Sinai, and with our fathers who did receive the living oracles to give to us;

The duty of the diaspora Hebrews was to be the teachers of the Torah. They were fulfilling their duty and they were confident of it too. And yet they needed to be taught the basics of their own belief again. Hence the letter to the Hebrews was written, by someone more mature in the faith. This writer was being inspired to remind the Hebrews of the truth they already had. Since they were the ones who received the oracles of Yahweh, they more than anyone should understand where they are and they should be acting appropriately. At that time in God’s development of humanity, the Holy Spirit took up residence in all God’s people, yet these Hebrews have regressed to being addressed as babes in the word.

They should have maintained their maturity as the ones finally receiving their promised new covenant. They were pre-evangelizing the nations by teaching the Torah that pointed to their Messiah, yet the very words they taught also exposed them as bad actors. The nations they were taming saw through their blatant hypocrisy. The diaspora had opened the eyes of the nations to what was right and wrong, thus the Jews exposed themselves as law breakers.

The 12 tribes in diaspora had a synagogue in every city teaching the oracles of God as given to Moses, but the Hebrews addressed in this letter to the Hebrews were unable to digest the meat of their own words. The most basic proof that they were missing the most basic fulfillment of the law was in their breaking of the ten commandments that they were teaching to others. The ones who were given the outward sign of circumcision were in need of being true Jews in spirit rather than nominally and outwardly. Paul agrees with the writer to the Hebrews when he addresses the Jews about being real.

Romans 2:17-29

ECB 17THE YAH HUDIY [Jews] AND THE TORAH
Behold, you are named Yah Hudiy [Jew or Judean] and repose in the torah and make your boast in Elohim, 18 and know his will and approve those that thoroughly surpass, being catechized from the torah; 19 and are confident that you yourself are a guide of the blind – a light of them in darkness, 20 a pedagogue of the thoughtless, a doctor of babes having the form of knowledge and of the truth in the torah. 21 So you who doctrinate another, doctrinate you not yourself? You who preach, Steal not, you – steal? 22 You who word, Adulterize not, you – adulterize? You who abhor idols, you – strip priestal precincts? 23 You who boast in torah, through transgressing the torah dishonor you Elohim? 24 For through you the name of Elohim is blasphemed among the goyim exactly as scribed. 25 For circumcision indeed benefits, whenever you transact the torah: but whenever you transgress the torah, your circumcision becomes uncircumcision. 26 So whenever the uncircumcision guards the judgment of the torah, is not indeed his uncircumcision reckoned to circumcision? 27 And uncircumcision, by nature fulfilling/shalaming the torah, judges you, who through the scribing and circumcision transgress the torah. 28 For he is not a Yah Hudiy, manifestly; nor circumcision in the flesh, manifestly: 29 But he is a Yah Hudiy, in the secrets; and circumcision is of heart – in spirit and not in scribing; whose halal is not of humanity, but of Elohim.

Even while humanity was infiltrating the nations, the worst animals from land and sea were doubling down in their bad behavior. Beasts from land and sea would rise up to try to stop the resurrection of humanity.

James 3:7-8 (Jacob addresses God’s humanity in diaspora, i.e., the 12 tribes)

ECB 7 For all nature, both of beasts and of flyers, both of creepers and of those in the sea, is tamed – and has been tamed by human nature: 8 but the tongue, no human can tame – an unrestrainable evil full of death bearing venom:

So when did the oracles of God first appear to the Hebrews? When did the Hebrews get their consciousness of right and wrong? And why were they who received the oracles of Yahweh misjudging both themselves and the Gentiles? Why did the Jews replace the Hebrew Torah with a Greek one? And why did unbelievers make a complete Hebrew version after being removed from covenant, since the nations nor the diaspora spoke Hebrew. What were the unbelievers hoping to accomplish by returning to some kind of modernized Hebrew that no population spoke?

The date of creation of the Septuagint text excerpted from Wikipedia:

It is roughly contiguous with the Second Temple period (516 BC-70 AD) and encompasses the age of Hellenistic Judaism. It is known by some members of the Protestant community as the “400 Silent Years” because it was a span where no new prophets were raised and God revealed nothing new to the Jewish people.

The date of creation of the Masoretic text excerpted from Brittanica:

Masoretic text, … This monumental work was begun around the 6th century AD and completed in the 10th by scholars at Talmudic academies in Babylonia and Palestine, in an effort to reproduce, as far as possible, the original text of the Hebrew Old Testament. …

The Greek translation of the Torah was written during the so called silent years. The people of God were not stagnate in their theological progress during their intertestamental period. The covenant transition between the old and new testament is not best represented by a blank page between Malachi and Matthew. It is better represented by the Septuagint that Jesus often quoted from. The intertestamental time frame encompasses the end of Malachi through Revelation. AD70 is the when the old turned into the new. The old did not turn the page into the new at the end of Malachi. The old turning into the new is the definition of intertestamental. Jesus took 70 years to complete His bodily transition from the old covenant into the new.

The covenant transition was made possible by the birth of the messiah in the old covenant. The final Revelation was an oracle from God to Jesus to an angel to John. The final word involved Yahweh, Yeshua, an angel a Jew and the Holy Spirit. Roughly a thousand years later the unbelievers gave us their edited version of the Hebrew Torah. Its final editing wasn’t Holy Spirit inspired and Jesus didn’t wait for it. He quoted from the Greek Torah. The Word become flesh by Holy Spirit conception and Jesus grew up in a Hellenistic world. Then in the power of the Holy Spirit Jesus quoted from the Greek Septuagint.

noun

  1. (especially in ancient Greece) an utterance, often ambiguous or obscure, given by a priest or priestess at a shrine as the response of a god to an inquiry.
  2. the agency or medium giving such responses.

Few people could read Hebrew and even fewer could speak it during this Second Temple period. That seems like a good enough reason to make a Greek translation of the Torah. The Koine Greek word the Jews used to replace the Hebrew word for breastplate is the Greek word for oracle. Why did the Hebrew breast plate become the oracle to the Greek speaking world? Was it proper for the intertestamental Jews to change the Hebrew words given to Moses by Yahweh? Did the pre-cross Jews know what they were doing when they made the LXX? Did Jewish Jesus know when He quoted their Greek Torah? Why didn’t Jesus teach in Hebrew?

The breast plate contained the urim and the thummin which made it supernaturally possible for the priest to render a true judgement under law. Urim means enlighten and thummin means uncertain. Hence the breast plate was a supernatural truth-telling tool that enabled the priest to (enlighten the uncertain) discern the truth for specific cases brought to him. Jesus didn’t need the breastplate to be an oracle and neither did the Jews who completed our Bible in Greek. They both had the power of the Holy Spirit. The first appearance of the Greek word for oracle in the Greek Torah is in Exodus 28:15. The Hebrew word for “breastplate” was replaced by the Greek word for “oracle”.

Exodus 28:15 – Greek

Thomson LXX 15 And thou shalt make the oracle of judgment, a work of an embroiderer” thou shalt make it, conformable to the ephod, of gold and blue and purple and scarlet yarn and cotton thread;

Exodus 28:15 – Hebrew

YLT 15 `And thou hast made a breastplate of judgment, work of a designer; according to the work of the ephod thou dost make it; of gold, blue, and purple, and scarlet, and twined linen thou dost make it;

The first appearance of a Hebrew word (da.var) that we translate into English as “oracle” is in 2 Samuel 16:23. Da.var means speech or word in nHebrew. The Greek word for speech or word is logos.

2 Samuel 16:23

KJV 23 And the counsel of Ahithophel, which he counseled in those days, was as if a man had inquired at the oracle [דָּבָר da.var speech or word] of God: so was all the counsel of Ahithophel both with David and with Absalom.

2 Samuel 16:23

Brenton 23 And the counsel of Achitophel, which he counselled in former days, was as if one should enquire of the word [λόγος the word] of God: so was all the counsel of Achitophel both to David and also to Abessalom.

The action of the law of Moses (that the 12 tribes were teaching to the nations) was at work in the Gentiles. It was being written on the heart naturally, which resulted in both accusations and defensiveness. The supernatural inscribing in the heart arrived to the Jew first, on pentecost. Romans chapter two is describing the natural receiving of the law. Supernaturally we are granted the clean conscious of Christ as the head of the body. Some of the Gentiles were naturally outshining some of the Jews in regard to conscientiousness, even though they did not have the Torah given to them as the foundation of their nations.

Romans 2:14-16

CLV 14 For whenever they of the nations that have no law, by nature may be doing that which the law demands, these, having no law, are a law to themselves, 15 who are displaying the action of the law written in their hearts, their conscience testifying together and their reckonings between one another, accusing or defending them, 16 in the day when God will be judging the hidden things of humanity, according to my evangel, through Jesus Christ.” [Due to Jewish evangelism, the Gentiles were included in the Jewish Day of the Lord.]

Paul said his Jewish gospel was going to judge of all humanity. Humanity was created by the Torah that was now being taught to the Gentiles. The Gentiles were naturally becoming as human as the Jews and sometimes even more human than the Jews. The impending judgement that started with the household of God would include all the humanized nations as well. The good news most graciously made everyone accountable for their fate. Salvation was offered to all the ethnics prior to the old covenant destruction. There would be no more delay of judgement in waiting for the savior to appear in Hades. Jesus started His new covenant right out of Hades. Even Jesus directly tied the judgement of His people to their belief or lack thereof in the truth of the gospel (John 3:18). Since judgement started with the family of God then what was the outcome for the unbelievers?

For the sun, He has placed a tent in them, 5 So it is like a bridegroom going forth from his canopy; It is elated like a master, to run its path.” 6 From the end of the heavens is its going forth, And its circling around goes on to their ends, So that nothing is being concealed from its warm penetration.” 7 The law of Yahweh is flawless, restoring the soul; The testimony of Yahweh is faithful, making wise the simple;” 8 The precepts of Yahweh are upright, rejoicing the heart; The instruction of Yahweh is pure, enlightening the eyes;”

Ephesians 6:14

LITV 14 Then stand firm, “having girded your loins about with truth” and having put “on the breastplate of righteousness,” Isa. 11:5; 59:17

When Jesus was sent to save and judge His people from all the nations, He didn’t need to wear the urim and thuman on His breastplate of righteousness. He sent His righteous Spirit to His people to take them to the age of salvation in Him. His breastplate of righteousness gave a clean conscience to His people who were naturally projecting their guilt onto the Gentiles. Only Jesus could properly take vengeance on those who rejected the truth and continued to oppressed the people who were behaving better than themselves. Jesus took all His chosen people to the age of salvation in His righteousness. Those who rejected Him were still on track for the age of destruction. The age of destruction was the same as the age of salvation. The difference between life and death was the difference between the old and new covenant. All died in Moses. All lived in Jesus.

Isaiah 59:16-21

CLV 16 And He is seeing that there is no man, and He is dejected that there is no intercessor. Yet His arm will save for Him, and His righteousness, it supports Him.” 17 And He will put on righteousness as a coat of mail, and the helmet of salvation on His head. And he will put on the garments of vengeance for clothing, and muffle as with a robe of jealousy.” 18 As requitals, so will He repay fury to His foes, a requital to His enemies, to the coastlanders a requital will He repay.” 19 And they from the west shall fear the name of Yahweh, and those from the rising of the sun, His glorious name. For the foe shall come as a stream. The spirit of Yahweh makes him flee.” 20 And there comes to Zion the Redeemer, and “He shall turn back transgression from Jacob, averring is Yahweh.” 21 And I–this is My covenant with them, says Yahweh. “My spirit, which is on you, and My word, which I place in your mouth, shall not remove from your mouth, or from the mouth of your seed, or from the mouth of your seed’s seed, says Yahweh, “Henceforth and till the eon.”

Jesus knew that some of the people who had originally received the oracles of God would not follow the truth or be logical. He also knew He had people to save from other places too.

John 8:44

ECB 44 You are of your father Diabolos and the pantings of your father you will to do: he is a murderer from the beginning; and stands not in the truth because there is no truth in him. Whenever he speaks a lie, he speaks of his own: for he is a liar, and the father thereof.

Romans 2:15

ECB 15 which indicates the work of the torah scribed in their hearts; their conscience also co-witnessing and their logic accusing or else pleading between one another;

Who wrote the law of God on the hearts of the Gentiles if they weren’t born into law? Did God write it on their hearts before they were born? Or did the diaspora bring Yahweh’s humanity to the first century culture? Even today in the 24th century of the Christian calendar creation, we constantly see our government defending or accusing one another in the name of humanity. Humanity is the constant judge of everything we do or try to justify doing. Proper humanity is in Jesus’ name. They who name humanity in order to try to justify evil, take the name in vain.

There are only 4 results for “the oracles” in KJV. The first two probably refer to God’s word given at Sinai. Peter 4:11 may be calling on the diaspora transition teachers to speak as if they knew God’s word given at Sinai.

Acts 7:38

1 Peter 4:11 [to the diaspora Hebrews]

KJV 11 If any man speak, let him speak as the oracles of God; if any man minister, let him do it as of the ability which God giveth: that God in all things may be glorified through Jesus Christ, to whom be praise and dominion for ever and ever. Amen.

Faithless Jews accused a faithful Jew who was speaking the oracles of God. The said Stephen was blaspheming Moses and the Law, so Stephen reviews their Jewish history of rebellion and murder against Moses and the law. What the old covenant unbelievers historically did is what the old covenant Jews were about to do to him: he was speaking for God as a supernatural word to the Jews. The old covenant priest in this chapter is not speaking supernaturally as an oracle. Stephen is. Stephen asks for their forgiveness for what they were doing to him in their ignorance. As more martyrs joined Stephen under the alter, the end of old covenant forgiveness drew near. The cry of, “How much longer?” replaced the cry of, “Father forgive them.”

Acts 7

CLV 1 Now the chief priest said, “Are these thing so? 2 Now he averred, “Men, brethren, and fathers, hear! The God of glory was seen by our father Abraham, being in Mesopotamia, ere he dwelt in Charan, 3 and said to him, ‘Come out of your land and from your relationship and come hither into the land which I would be showing to you.'” 4 Then, coming out of the land of the Chaldeans, he dwells in Charan, and thence, after the death of his father, He exiles him into this land in which you are now dwelling. ” 5 And He does not give him any allotment to enjoy in it, nor even a platform for a foot. “And He promises to give it to him for a tenure and to his seed after him, there being no child of his.” 6 Yet God speaks thus, that his seed shall be sojourner in an alien land, and they shall enslave it and illtreat it four hundred years.” 7 And the nation for whichsoever they should be slaving shall I judge, said God. And after these things they shall be coming out and offering divine service to Me in this place.” 8 And He gives him the covenant of circumcision. And thus he begets Isaac, and circumcised him on the eighth day, and Isaac Jacob, and Jacob the twelve patriarchs.” 9 And the patriarchs, being jealous of Joseph, gave him up into Egypt. And God was with him, 10 and extricates him out of all his afflictions, and gives him favor and wisdom in front of Pharaoh, king of Egypt, and constitutes him governor over Egypt and over his whole house.” 11 Now a famine came on the whole of Egypt and Canaan, and the affliction was great, and our fathers found no provender.” 12 Now Jacob, hearing that there are stores of grain in Egypt, delegates our fathers first.” 13 And in the second time Joseph is made re-known to his brethren, and Joseph’s race became apparent to Pharaoh.” 14 Now Joseph, dispatching them, calls for Jacob, his father, and the entire relationship among seventy-five souls.” 15 And Jacob descended into Egypt, and he deceases, he and our fathers, 16 and they were transferred to Shechem and placed in the tomb which Abraham purchases for a price, in silver, from the sons of Hamor in Shechem.” 17 Now, as the time of the promise which God avows to Abraham drew near, the people grow and were multiplied in Egypt, 18 until a different king rose over Egypt, who had not been acquainted with Joseph.” 19 This one, dealing astutely with our race, ill treats the fathers, causing their babes to be exposed that they should not live.” 20 In which era Moses was born (and was handsome even to God), who was reared three months in the home of his father.” 21 Now, at his being exposed, Pharaoh’s daughter lifts him up and rears him for herself, for a son.” 22 And Moses was trained in all the wisdom of the Egyptians, yet was powerful in his words and works.” 23 Now as his forty-year time was completed, it came on his heart to visit his brethren, the sons of Israel.” 24 And perceiving someone being injured, he succors him, and does the avenging of him who is harried, smiting the Egyptian.” 25 Now he inferred that his brethren understood that God, through his hand, is giving salvation to them; yet they do not understand.” 26 Besides, on the ensuing day he was seen by them as they are fighting, and he interceded with them for peace, saying, Men! Brethren are you! Why is it that you are injuring one another? 27 Yet he who is injuring his associate, thrusts him away, saying ‘Who constitutes you a chief and a justice over us? 28 You do not want to despatch me in the manner you despatched the Egyptian yesterday?’ 29 Now Moses fled at this word, and became a sojourner in the land of Midian, where he begets two sons.” 30 And, at the completion of forty years, a messenger was seen by him in the wilderness of mount Sinai, in the flame of a thorn bush fire.” 31 Now Moses, perceiving it, marvels at the vision. Yet, at his approaching to consider it, the voice of the Lord came:” 32 I am the God of your fathers, the God of Abraham and Isaac and Jacob. Now Moses, coming to be in a tremor, dared not consider it.” 33 Now the Lord said to him, ‘Loose the sandals from your feet, for the place on which you stand is holy land.'” 34 In perceiving I perceived the ill treatment of My people who are in Egypt,’ and their groaning I hear, ‘and I descended to extricate them.’ And now, come hither that I should be dispatching you into Egypt.” 35 This Moses, whom they disown, saying, ‘Who constitutes you a chief and a justice over us?’ this one has God commissioned to be a chief as well as a redeemer, a justice, with the hand of the messenger who was seen by him in the thorn bush.” 36 This man led them out, doing miracles and signs in the land of Egypt and in the Red Sea, and in the wilderness forty years.” 37 This is the Moses who says to the sons of Israel: A Prophet will God be raising up to you from among your brethren, as me.” 38 This is he who came to be in the ecclesia in the wilderness with the messenger, who speaks to him in mount Sinai, and with our fathers, [Moses] who receives the living oracles to give to you, 39 to whom our fathers are not willing to become obedient, but they thrust him away, and turned to Egypt in their hearts, 40 saying to Aaron, ‘Make us gods who will go before us – for this Moses, the man who led us out of the land of Egypt, we are not aware what became of him.'” 41 And they make a calf in those days, and they led up the sacrifice to the idol, and made merry with the works of their hands.” 42 Now God turns and gives them up to be offering divine service to the host of heaven, according as it is written in the scroll of the prophets: Do you not offer Me slain victims and sacrifices forty years in the wilderness, house of Israel? 43 And you took up the tabernacle of Moloch and the constellation of your god Raiphan, the models which you make, to worship them. ‘And I shall be exiling you beyond Babylon.” 44 The tabernacle of the testimony was with our fathers in the wilderness, according as He prescribes, Who speaks to Moses, to make it according to the model which he had seen, 45 which also our fathers who succeed him, with Joshua, led into the tenure of the nations, whom God thrusts out from the face of our fathers, till the days of David, 46 who found favor before God. And he requests that he may find a tabernacle for the God of Jacob. 47 Yet Solomon builds Him a house.” 48 But the Most High is not dwelling in what is made by hands, according as the prophet is saying, 49 Heaven is My throne, yet the earth is a footstool for My feet. What kind of house shall be built for Me?the Lord is saying, or what is the place of My stopping? 50 Is it not My hand that does all these things?’ 51 Stiff-necked and uncircumcised in your hearts and ears, you are ever clashing with the holy spirit! As your fathers, you also!” 52 Which of the prophets do not your fathers persecute? And they kill those who announce before concerning the coming of the Just One, of Whom now you became the traitors and murderers -” 53 who got the law for a mandate of messengers and do not maintain it!” 54 Now, hearing these things, they were harrowed in their hearts, and gnashed their teeth at him.” 55 Now possessing the fullness of faith and holy spirit, looking intently into heaven, he perceived the glory of God, and Jesus, standing at the right hand of God, 56 and said, “Lo! I am beholding the heavens opened up, and the Son of Mankind standing at the right hand of God.” 57 Now, crying with a loud voice, they pressed their ears and rush on him with one accord.” 58 And, casting him out, outside of the city, they pelted him with stones. And the witnesses put off their garments at the feet of a young man called Saul.” 59 And they pelted Stephen with stones, while he is invoking and saying, “Lord Jesus, receive my spirit!” 60 Now, kneeling, he cries with a loud voice, “Lord, Thou shouldst not stand against them this sin! And saying this, he was put to repose.”

Stephen was the new and true Jewish oracle because he was filled with the Holy Spirit when he spoke the truth to them.

Acts 6

CLV 1 Now in these days, the disciples multiplying, there came to be a murmuring of the Hellenists against the Hebrews, that their widows were overlooked in the daily dispensation.” 2 Now the twelve, calling the multitude of the disciples to them, say, “It is not pleasing for us, leaving the word of God, to be serving at tables.” 3 Now, brethren, pick out seven attested men from among you, full of the spirit and of wisdom, whom we will place over this need.” 4 Yet we shall be persevering in prayer and the dispensation of the word.” 5 And, pleased by the word spoken before the entire multitude, they choose Stephen, a man full of faith and holy spirit, and Philip and Prochoros and Nicanor and Timon and Parmenas and Nicholas, a proselyte of Antioch, 6 whom they stand before the apostles. And, praying, they place their hands on them.” 7 And the word of God grows, and the number of the disciples in Jerusalem multiplied tremendously. Besides, a vast throng of the priests obeyed the faith.” 8 Now Stephen, full of grace and power, did great miracles and signs among the people. ” 9 Now there rise certain of those of the synagogue termed Freedmen, and of the Cyrenians, and Alexandrians, and of those from Cilicia and the province of Asia, discussing with Stephen.” 10 And they were not strong enough to withstand the wisdom and the spirit with which he spoke. 11 Then they suborned men, saying that, “We have heard him speaking declarations, blaspheming Moses and God.” 12 They stir up the people as well as the elders and the scribes, and standing by, they grip him, and led him into the Sanhedrin.” 13 Besides, they put false witnesses on the stand, who say, “This man does not cease speaking, making declarations against this holy place and the law, 14 for we have heard him saying that this Jesus the Nazarene will be demolishing this place and will be changing the customs which Moses gives over to us.” 15 And looking intently at him, all those seated in the Sanhedrin perceived his face as if it were the face of a messenger.”

All those in the Sanhedrin were without excuse. They saw Stephen as the true messenger he was even before he testified to them for the last time. The Jews were being judged by the gospel before the Gentiles were. Jewish Stephen obviously believed the same gospel Jewish Jesus died for. Stephen died evangelizing his own people. He was sent to Jerusalem to tend to the widows in need, which is Jesus’ brother’s definition of true religion.

James 1:27 proper husbandry is the key to life

LITV 27 Pure and undefiled religion before God and the Father is this: to visit orphans and widows in their afflictions, and to keep oneself unspotted from the world.

Stephen was chosen to live out his true Jewish religion by serving the widows in Jerusalem. Those who murdered him denied their own Jewish body of widows the divine providence they needed to live. For unbelievers, the old man was not put to death on the cross. Old covenant Jews in denial did not think they needed to be remarried to survive. The old husbandry money would soon dry up for all the Jews who remained in Jerusalem.

Can we go back in time to the twice dead old covenant and flesh out God’s Word in our modern version of a revived ‘Hebrew’? Isn’t that illogical? The Hebrew language went dead before the second temple period that Jesus was born into. Jesus fleshed out the Word of God in Greek. Unlike Jesus, some people insist on going back to the ‘more holy’ Hebrew language. What did Jesus do? He spoke the common language of the Day of the Lord. He doesn’t plan to finish His Day in Hebrew, as far as I know. Even though some modern day ‘oracles’ say so.
