Why was Jesus cut off in the middle of His last seven old covenant years, if not to carry His chosen people through, in His new covenant creation? The old covenant count resumed it’s final 3 1/2 years in the flesh in AD 66. The unbelievers were even more deeply imbedded in the flesh by then. In the meantime, the 40-year spiritual reformation continued unabated. Jesus’ 3 1/2 year ministry was His personal Holy-Spirit-enabled old covenant ministry. The reformation of His chosen people was cut off in the middle of the last seven years in the count to the 1000 year jubilee. Only Jesus had the Holy Spirit in the old covenant. Only He would have arrived alive “not in the flesh” had He not moved His body into the new covenant. The Holy Spirit reformation of the body would take 40 years. The true jubilee was put on hold in the flesh so all God’s people could finish in the Holy Spirit. If you have the Holy Spirit you are not in the flesh According to Romans 8:9.

Even with Jesus as the old covenant reformer, the law could not deliver the chosen Jews who were still in the flesh. Jesus was the only Jew “not in the flesh” while still in the old covenant. In the new covenant everyone has the Holy Spirit, thus by biblical definition are “no longer in the flesh”. The born again Jews reformed and became like Jesus before AD 70, by way of their Holy Spirit re-formation, no longer in the flesh. Jesus’ mid-week old covenant death interrupted His final old covenant week and thus gave the Jews in the flesh time to reform spiritually, before the end of their old covenant arrived.

With Jesus Himself now in the new covenant, no body under law arrived to the age alive. He alone would have arrived to the age, not in the flesh. His 3 1/2 years of not walking in the strength of the flesh was counted as part of the 40-year Holy Spirit reformation. His 40-year Jewish reformation was not being accomplished in the flesh. The start of Jesus’ ministry is defined by the Holy Spirit enablement. The biblical definition of a true Jew after the cross is anyone who is “no longer in the flesh”. The only true Jew that the Holy Spirit remained on before the cross was Jesus. Even when He drove the money exchangers out of the temple, Jesus was not in the flesh. The money lenders were. It wasn’t that Jesus had supernatural muscle to crack the whip. Jesus had the faith to cleanse the temple. He believed God’s written word. They didn’t. He said unto them, “It is written, ‘My house shall be called the house of prayer,’ but ye have made it a den of thieves.” Matthew 21:13

Jesus ministered in the power of the Holy Spirit to the Jews in and around Jerusalem, for 3 1/2 years, at which time He was cut off by the Jewish unbelief in the land. Three and a half is a broken seven. The last week was arrested midway in its normal course. This is not just any seven. It was the final week of old covenant years that was interrupted.

After Jesus’ resurrection and ascension, He empowered his chosen people to minister in Jerusalem with the same Holy Spirit He had ministered with. They were no longer in the flesh and they were no longer under law counting the years. Jesus could have finished counting the years under law but only He would have arrived alive. So He stalled the old covenant count for a greater fulfillment that included all God’s chosen people. Meanwhile, the unfaithful Jews scattered the born again Jews (who were being made holy people) until the typical count resumed. They were definitely operating in their flesh. The 3 1/2 year typical flesh finish was the 3 1/2 year destruction of the old covenant people still in the flesh. The unbelieving Jews were progressively becoming more and more unholy, while the believing Jews were being made Holy. Anyone who recognized their ever-increasing unholiness under law was given time to reform in the new before the typical counting under the law resumed.

AD 70 put an end to the old covenant Jews still in the flesh who were scattering God’s holy people. After the cross, the annual animal sacrifices had ceased to carry the old covenant Jews a year closer to their typical millennial Jubilee goal. The ordinances working against them were nailed to the cross. Jesus, in the air over the old covenant land (on the cross), caused the typical old covenant counting to cease, on land as it is in heaven – Matthew 16:18-19. Continuing to claim typical animal deliverance on the land for another year, became an abomination to heaven. The unfaithful Jews became like the animals, precisely because they rejected the new covenant humanity, as offered to them by their Messiah. The believing Jews at the same time were being ‘holyized’ by the Holy Spirit their messiah sent to them in Jerusalem.

Continual animal sacrifices became abominations in the place of the forgiveness and holiness sent to them from their promised Messiah. Animals became unholy animal sacrifices. God no longer required them or desired them. The unholy people who continued to make them rejected the Holy Spirit rebirth. In addition to making unholy animal sacrifices, the unfaithful Jews kept killing the faithful Jews. The faithful Jewish martyrs were being holyized by their new covenant rebirth. They waited under the alter for the typical counting of the 490 years to resume and culminate in the second death of the old covenant people. It is surely an abomination to God for anyone at any time to kill His chosen people, and do it in His name, while continuing to reject His Son He sent in His Name, Whom they also killed in God’s Name.

Some say that the destruction of old covenant Jerusalem took 3 1/2 years while some report a 7-year destruction. The Jews in the flesh ended either way: with a 3 1/2-year or a 7-year destruction, which gave relief to the Holy-Spirit-empowered-Jews. The new covenant Jews were not empowered to fight the old covenant Jews in the flesh. They were born by the Holy Spirit. By either count, the flesh and blood Jews who were not born again into their new covenant resumed counting and finally reached their millenium in the flesh. At least God resumed counting His 490 years of old covenant forbearance – Matthew 18:21-22. Old covenant forgiveness is no more. 490 + years of old covenant forgiveness and forbearance is past. Faith in animal sacrifices ended when God’s wrath came down upon Jerusalem still in the flesh. The scoffing Jews saw God’s grace period as God’s broken promise – 2 Peter 3:4. They became more cynical rather than grateful for God’s patience with them.

If Jesus was born in 3 or 4 BC then His perfected humanity was 70 years old at or around 66 AD. In the actual 70th year of our Lord eternal life was given to all His chosen people. The actual 70th year of our Lord was 66 AD not 70 AD. He was the only close relative who could graciously redeem the Jews from their millennial Jubilee debts. Jesus fulfilled all the Jewish types before their old covenant was destroyed. Old covenant grace by way of animal sacrifice was far surpassed and fulfilled by His old covenant sacrifice. He gave up His old covenant life so His chosen people could join Him in His new covenant life. Animal sacrifices became abominations in the face of Christ. The old covenant grace of God in Jesus became the new covenant grace of God in Jesus. New covenant grace replaced and far surpassed old covenant grace. Old covenant grace ended when 70 years was fulfilled by God for the second time.

Colossians was written while the Judaizers were still insisting on keeping their old covenant flesh mode. Judaizers today insist the old flesh mode is coming back. First century Judaizers could still point to the flesh mode in the land. The second old covenant temple still was still standing prior to AD 70. Even though the old covenant occupation of the land ended for the second time over 2000 years ago, some people still insist on its return. Even though the 70 years typically required for covenant reformation was fulfilled by Jesus over two millennia ago. Some people even teach that we will someday rule in the the kingdom in the flesh. 1000 years was completed by all the first century Jews, both in the Holy Spirit and in the flesh. The latter did not end well, but it did end. As Jesus explained to the teacher of the Jews, the only way for a Jew to live to the age was by being born again. Nobody could reign with Jesus in the flesh. Those who remained in the flesh covenant died to the age of 1000. Those who were born again by the Holy Spirit lived to the age of 1000. The old covenant was still on temporary life support when Colossians was written. They eventually became brain dead by continuing to reject the mind of Christ. The plug was pulled in AD 66. The unbelieving Jews lost their old covenant head in Adam.

The Jews who remained in their old covenant death perished. The Jews who moved into their new covenant life didn’t. There is no new covenant death.
