Noah’s Ark Was a Type of Baptism

The anti-type of baptism was Jesus’ death and resurrection. He put away the old man conscience. The new firstborn of humanity gave us a good conscience through the resurrection of the dead old covenant body on Firstfruit.

1 Peter 3:19c-21 – to the diaspora

19c – Being gone [from His old covenant body in the physical land] 20 He preached to the ones who were at one time unpersuadable [who were ‘now’ on hold in Hades] when the patience of God waited in the days of Noah, while the Ark was being prepared, wherein few – that is eight souls [flesh and blood or typical old covenant lives] were saved through water: 21 to which the antitype of baptism is now saving us also – not the putting away the filth of flesh but of a good-conscience inquiry into God through the resurrection of Yeshua Messiah:

How did Adam and Eve get a bad conscience? – by Adam’s conscious inquiry into the knowledge of God through the forbidden tree, instigated by a fallen angel. How did Noah’s generation get a bad conscience? – by knowledge of God through more fallen angels. Fallen angels infiltrated the role of human family headship. How did the new family of God get a good knowledge of God? – through Jesus Christ the head of the new human family. He chose to die on the tree in Adam’s place in order to replace him. He is now the incorruptible conscience: firstborn of humanity.

The baptism of Christ on the cross was saving the family of God during the covenant transition. Noah’s baptism was a typical putting away of the corrupted flesh in the land to save the family of humanity. But the baptism of Christ was an inward renewal. That salvation was complete before the AD 70 destruction of the corrupted flesh and blood ones. AD 70 was God’s final wrath on the body of unpersuadable unbelievers. God patiently waited till AD 70. The destruction of flesh and blood types in AD 70 was not for the salvation of His people. Jesus paid the price for that. Flesh and blood still in the land did not inherit the life of the Holy Spirit salvation in AD 70.

Jesus said He had a baptism to undergo, meaning the cross. The Holy Spirit already joined Him at His first baptism. His followers were to join Him in His second baptism by carrying the cross and also putting the old man to death. Only believers joined His baptism on the cross and were being resurrected. Unbelievers died and stayed dead when the old man was finally put to death.

Jesus became the new head. Jesus is the good-conscious inquiry into the knowledge of God. Not only is He righteous, He petitions God on our behalf when we don’t know what to ask for. Noah’s baptism saved the family of God by putting the corrupted flesh and blood to death and starting a new flesh and blood family. But Jesus renewed the family in His name first and then He put the corrupted flesh and blood body to death. The antitype was grace upon grace. Those who stayed in the old covenant and continued to murder the body of Christ, finally suffered God’s wrath, after God waited patiently to the end of the day of Adam. The antitype ended for their continual violence, like the type.

Noah typically saved his family from the flood of God’s wrath, but the final judgement was not Noah’s flood. Noah’s flood was only a type of being born again and coming out of the water alive with a renewed humanity. The antitype is in new covenant salvation. Noah’s flood was also a type of an old covenant destruction that AD 70 fulfilled. Only eight human souls typically came out of the water onto clean dry land to start God’s humanity over.

After 40 weeks of pregnancy, the water breaks and the baby must soon join the family on dry land. But that is only a first birth. Jesus told Nicodemus he must be born again; not just by water, but again, by the Holy Spirit. The Holy Spirit birth at Pentecost was the necessary baptism that enabled God’s people to join Jesus in His baptism on the cross, by putting the old man to death and joining the resurrection, into the true humanity. The Holy Spirit joined Jesus at His first baptism (Matthew 3:16-17). He was baptized again for His people.

Noah’s ark came out of the waters and rested on the clean land on the 17th of Nisan. So Peter saw in Noah’s baptism a symbol of the true salvation that comes by Holy Spirit baptism into the death and resurrection of Jesus Christ. Jesus was resurrected on the 17th of Nisan (day of rest). It was not the removal of corrupted flesh that saved anybody, but the proper knowing of God (first being known by God) through Jesus Christ rather than the old soul Adam. Only Jesus could know God properly in old covenant humanity, so He was re-baptized for the sake of His people. God knows what we can be, by knowing His true Son of humanity. He sees the true-ized us before we do.

Isaiah 53:11

CLV 11 From the toil of His soul shall He see light. And He shall be satisfied by His knowledge. My righteous Servant shall justify many, and with their depravities shall He be burdened.”

Peter wrote to the diaspora as did James also. The 12 tribes were given the Word of God and as a result of disobedience they carried the Word of God to the nations in their diaspora. They were taming all of creation. The Word of God teemed forth the humanity of Adam to the 12 tribes and to the other creations.

It was a soulish or a natural creation of humanity produced by the natural hearing the Word of God. The natural soul of humanity needed the Word implanted or emphasized in the heart by the Holy Spirit Jesus sent. The old covenant soul of humanity in Adam gave way to the new covenant soul of humanity in Jesus. They couldn’t keep both souls. Adam was the first born soul of humanity that was being put to second death at the end of his dying day. Israel was the first born national soul that was being put to second death at the end of their dying day.

The word emphutos is only used once in the Bible and it is used by James (Jacob) to address the 12 tribes in their transition of covenants. The word double-souled is only used twice; both times by James [Jacob to the 12] addressing the people in transition from their old to their new covenant soul.

James 1:1, 8, 11-21; 3:7, 4:8

CLV 1 James [Jacob or Yacobus], a slave of God and of the Lord Jesus Christ, to the twelve tribes in the dispersion. Rejoice!”

8 a man double-souled, turbulent in all his ways.”

11 For the sun rises, together with the scorching heat, and withers the grass, and its flower falls off, and the comeliness of its aspect perished. Thus the rich also in his goings shall be caused to fade.” 12 Happy is the man who is enduring trial, for, becoming qualified, he will be obtaining the wreath of life, which He promises to those loving Him.” 15 Thereafter, the desire, conceiving, is bringing forth sin. Now sin, fully consummated, is teeming forth death.” 16 Be not deceived, my beloved brethren!” 17 All good giving and every perfect gratuity is from above, descending from the Father of lights, in Whom there is no mutation or shadow from revolving motion.” 18 By intention, He teems forth us by the word of truth, for us to be some firstfruit of His own creatures.” 19 Now you are aware, my beloved brethren! Yet let every man be swift to hear, tardy to speak, tardy to anger, 20 for the anger of man is not working the righteousness of God. 21 Wherefore, putting off all filthiness and superabundance of evil, receive with meekness the implanted [emphutos] word, which is able to save your souls.”

Jesus told His chosen Jews to take the gospel to all the creation. The assembly in Colossae became part of the new creation of humanity through that great commission.

Colossians 1:23

ECB 23 if indeed you abide in the trust founded and grounded; and not transported from the hope of the evangelism which you heard, which was preached in all creation under the heavens; whereof I Paulos became a minister;

The image of God came to fruition in His only begotten old covenant Son, become firstborn of the new covenant for us, through baptism of the cross and resurrection. By the time the letter to the Colossians was written, He was firstborn of the new covenant creation, which included all the nations.

Colossians 1:15-29

YLT 15 who is the image of the invisible God, first-born of all creation, 16 because in him were the all things created, those in the heavens, and those upon the earth, those visible, and those invisible, whether thrones, whether lordships, whether principalities, whether authorities; all things through him, and for him, have been created, 17 and himself is before all, and the all things in him have consisted. 18 And himself is the head of the body—the assembly—who is a beginning, a first-born out of the dead, that he might become in all things —himself—first, 19 because in him it did please all the fulness to tabernacle20 and through him to reconcile the all things to himself—having made peace through the blood of his cross—through him, whether the things upon the earth, whether the things in the heavens. 21 And you—once being alienated, and enemies in the mind, in the evil works, yet now did he reconcile, 22 in the body of his flesh through the death, to present you holy, and unblemished, and unblameable before himself, 23 if also ye remain in the faith, being founded and settled, and not moved away from the hope of the good news, which ye heard, which was preached in all the creation that is under the heaven, of which I became—I Paul—a ministrant. 24 I now rejoice in my sufferings for you, and do fill up the things lacking of the tribulations of the Christ in my flesh for his body, which is the assembly, 25 of which I—I did become a ministrant according to the dispensation of God, that was given to me for you, to fulfill the word of God, 26 the secret that hath been hid from the ages and from the generations, but now was manifested to his saints, 27 to whom God did will to make known what is the riches of the glory of this secret among the nations—which is Christ in you, the hope of the glory, 28 whom we proclaim, warning every man, and teaching every man, in all wisdom, that we may present every man perfect in Christ Jesus, 29 for which also I labour, striving according to his working that is working in me in power.
